anish233
What is your ideal 11 for world cup matches ? I know it might be different depending on the opponent and the pitch, but even so what is your Ideal 11 for a must-win match (which frankly is every match in the WC) My 11: Rohit Gill Kohli Iyer Rahul Ishan Hardik Jadeja Shami Siraj Bumrah Its a toss up for me between Ishan and Surya, but I give the advantage to Ishan because I truly believe he is more reliable and technically more sound. BacktoCricaddict
Got to find room for Kuldeep Yadav. Maybe Shami sits. Link to comment
cricspirit
I like 6 batters and Jadeja at 8. Do not want Thakur playing under normal circumstances. Only two of Pandya, Jadeja, Ashwin, Thakur need to play. no more. Virat, Iyer, Rohit should cover some overs if needed. If Hardik breaks down and cant bowl, he should not play next match and that is probably a scenario when Thakur should play. Rohit Gill Kohli Iyer Rahul SKY Hardik Jadeja Kuldeep Siraj Bumrah ** Kishan backup for opening or Rahul ** Shami backup for Siraj or Bumrah ** Ashwin backup for Jadeja or Kuldeep ** Thakur backup for Pandya. Vijy
it's actually looking difficult, because our best 4 bowlers cannot bat and our batters don't bowl. this is my preferred lineup: flat tracks where the best bowling is crucial: rohit gill kohli rahul (wk) Jaddu --> not happy with jadeja, but it is better to use him up the order than at 7, where he cannot hit. pandya SKY --> better bet on pattas, where he can come down the order at no. 7 (in place of iyer) bumrah shami/prasidh kuldeep siraj spinning tracks or sluggish tracks: rohit gill kohli iyer rahul (wk) jaddu pandya ashwin bumrah [prasidh/shami as back-up] kuldeep siraj [prasidh/shami as back-up] I have not listed a team for pace-friendly tracks, since we are not likely to see many of these in WC. Agreed! Though if Axar is fit I may play him in place of Jadeja as a 6th bowler..given recent batting form of both.. Edited September 25, 2023 by Need4Speed Link to comment
bowl_out
They'll surely play 6 bowling options. Rohit Gill Kohli Iyer Rahul Hardik Jadeja Ashwin (spin tracks)/Shami (seam tracks) Kuldeep Siraj Bumrah Assuming Ashwin comes into the squad for Axar Backup : SKY is backup for Iyer.. Batting order might reshuffle a bit when SKY plays Kishan backup for Rahul (as keeper) and Rohit/Gill (as opener) Shardul at 8 or 9 instead of Shami / Kuldeep if match conditions demand so zen 1 Link to comment

Nikhil_cric
Based on whatever I've seen until now. Rohit Gill Kohli Iyer KL SKY/Pandya Pandya/SKY Bumrah SIraj Kuldeep Prasidh If Kohli is struggling for form, Kishan to open and Gill at 3. On spin pitch, remove a pacer and bring Ash in. This ain't happening but it's what I think is best for this lineup. Suhaan 1 Link to comment

Frustrated
Each team will play 9 matches in the 1st round. So, it is going to be a long tournament. No team will keep playing the same 11 in every game. Otherwise there will be injury/fatigue to few players. So, the question we should be asking is : If the 15 players for the WC are the best available ones? The ans is Yes. (IMO) Link to comment

zen
Likely 11: Gill Rohit Kohli (backup Iyer) KL (wk, backup Kishan) SKY (if not batting well, Iyer or Kishan) Hardik Jadeja Ashwin or Thakur or a pacer like Shami Kuldeep Bumrah Siraj Link to comment
Majestic
Gill Rohit Kohli Shreyas Rahul Pandya Jadeja Shami/Shardul/Sundar( depending on conditions, Sundar can bat at 5-6 if early wickets fell) Bumrah Siraj Kuldeep Link to comment
cowboysfan
remember Iyer only lost his place in the team because he was injured,no reason why he should not be in the team especially at home where the bounce in the wickets should not be a problem. SrinjayDutta
Dont think about in terms of best 11. Against a batting heavy team, we can play 4 bowlers plus pandya. In a flat pitch shootout. As of now, we definitely should not think about a best 11 but horses for courses. Say 3 spinners for chennai and lucknow. Also a switch in no 4 and 5 based on opposition and pitch between the 4 batsmen. putrevus 1 Link to comment
