Dhawan had scored a rollicking 187 on Test debut, and earned an ODI recall after five mostly forgettable games in 2010 and 2011. That comeback year, 2013, was something like Gill's 2023: 1162 runs at 50.52 and a strike rate of 97.89. When he brought up his fifth ODI hundred that November, Dhawan had played just 28 games. This is one Indian ODI record Gill hasn't managed to break: he scored his fifth hundred, against Bangladesh during the Asia Cup, in his 32nd match.

Great ICC tournament player. Never seen him nervously playing in a pressure match. He had some technical glitch. Otherwise  also stepped up like other Delhi predecessors like Gauti, Viru. Mohinder :)

Yep. Was our most important player from 2013-2019. Our WC campaign was doomed after his injury. We needed someone to get us off to aggressive starts. Rohit, with his snail paced batting in the PP, was hard to watch, regardless of his many tons. 

 

He's a more valuable player to the lineup now.

The thing is Dhawan can easily walk into many cricket teams easily. Due to overwhelming competition he had to be phased out.

Dhawan was quality ODI bat, just like Ganguly and Gambhir.

Modern day great . Probably our top 3 crunch match players with sachin , yuvi . You could bank on them 

 

he has been phased out due to gill emergence and jaiswal , Ruturaj on horizon . 
 

gabbar was always a treat to watch . In tests too , his debut against Aussies was unbelievable .

Article glorifying the period where we hardly won anything barring 1 Champions trophy. These guys failed us to win even overseas bilaterals at times. Good batter but nothing special, this 'trinity' has hardly won anything. Other 2 of Trinity should also be phased out after wc.

No he can't...  He had a pathetic S/R in his last year or so.  Reflexes were shot.  He was done.

Was a very very good ODI batsman. Late boomer but used his opportunities well. Age caught up with him but kudos to him for keeping himself fit as a fiddle even at 38. Will continue to do well in IPL for at least 2-3 more years with the fitness level he is at. 

 

I hope Dravid or Rohit called him when he was dropped from the Indian team.

Not so sure. He had actually improved his T20 game after he was out of T20I reckoning. probably would have been better had he been considered for WT20 2021 in UAE.  

 

Used to absolutely hate his cringeworthy celebrations back then but I miss those clutch performances in ICC tournaments now, lol. Somewhere I get the feeling he underachieved.

Rohit had a SR of 69 in first Ten overs. Thanks to this article I got to know why we never won anything and why we never will as long as Rohit is opening. That is abysmal even for 90s standards in ODIs..

Dhawan played through the pain and won us the game! We wouldn't have succumbed in the SF if he had played it, that's for sure. Cummins also broke Shami's arm in the BGT series in Australia. It was a huge loss for us.
