Gollum Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 This match will define his legacy. A reason Donald isn't held in the McGrath, Akram (GOAT conversation) class is because of his record in ICC KOs....otherwise Donald was as good or even better than them. Ranvir 1

It was a very critical match and we were under tremendous pressure. But Bumrah picked 6 wickets in that match. 2) 2018-19 tour to Australia and the series was tied 1-1. Another loss meant we wouldn't win the series. But Bumrah picked 9 wickets in that match to get MoM. 3) These 2 test series mentioned above have been 2 of our biggest achievements in test cricket history, and Bumrah has been a major contributor there. Such big away series are invariably very tough and players face tremendous pressure. 4) 2023 Asia Cup match vs Pakistan .. Playing Pakistan after a long time and hence a high pressure match. Bumrah bowled an amazing opening spell despite coming back from injury. 5) 2023 WC Semi Final vs NZ .. Very high scoring match, where Southee, Boult, Ferguson and Siraj all went for 8 to 10 runs an over. Bumrah, despite being expensive in the first 3 overs, came back strongly and bowled his last 7 overs very well. 6) India tour to England 2021 .. Series tied 1-1. Bumrah bowled a tremendous spell in the 2nd innings, a very famous spell, to tilt it in our favour. And we went up 2-1. P.S .. a) 1 for 39 in the 2019 SF is not a choke. b) 2021 WTC Finsl .. he was coming back from his honeymoon and a decent length break Did not get any time to prepare. 2017 CT Final was the only true choke on his part. You basically trying to justify the point that Bumrah is a great bowler and that is not even the question in the thread.

You topic title states performing on the big stage and I gave you multiple instances of Bumrah doing so. I stuck to your topic only. Did not mention anything about greatness or otherwise. No one looking upto India to win that game. Again same goes for 2018 tour. It could have been drawn series and no one would been disappointed. Performing when no one expects best performance or performing when you're down or doing what no one else has not done before - these are not same as performing at big stage.
Chakdephatte Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I though Quinton De Cock must've ended all the psychobabble on cricket but I underestimated Indian fans.

At least Donald got a 4fer in the 99 semi finals IIRC ,Bumrah has done nothing of Note yet in 4-5 KO matches

Winning big away test series may not be your priority .. but this team really wanted to and did. And that involves tackling a lot of pressure. Mosher 1

putrevus Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 (edited) He was our best bowler and he also needed this world cup for his legacy. He is just too good a bowler to keep failing in big stages. I am glad for him. Edited June 29, 2024 by putrevus Kron 1

If he bowls average for four years, he is our best bowlers. He has to be terrible from here to hurt his legacy. Easily surpassing everyone by the end of his career.
