Trichromatic
2003 WC had young Zaheer Khan going through nervous moments and throwing multiple wides. 2023 WC semis saw Bumrah who has been playing cricket for over 7 years now, bowling down wides. There is no doubt about his ability and skills as bowlers, but is mentally tough to perform at big stages. Let's look at his performances in past. 1. 2016 WT20 semi final v WI 4 overs 42 runs 1 wicket. Ashish Nehra had figures of 24 runs in 4 overs. https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/world-t20-2015-16-901359/india-vs-west-indies-2nd-semi-final-951371/full-scorecard 2. 2017 CT final v Pak https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-champions-trophy-2017-1022345/india-vs-pakistan-final-1022375/full-scorecard 9 overs, 68, 0 wickets. Bhuvi returned with figures of 44 in 10 overs. Pandya 53 runs in 10 overs. 3. 2019 WC semi-final v NZ https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-champions-trophy-2017-1022345/india-vs-pakistan-final-1022375/full-scorecard 10 overs 39 runs 1 wicket. Bhuvi got 3-43 in 10 overs. Pandya got 55-1 in 10 overs. 4. Nikhil_cric
Unless the conditions really help him, his strength lies in being a very good defensive bowler. He bowled brilliantly vs OZ in Chennai. Needs to just hit the channel in his first spell and then focus on cutters at the death etc. Whenever he tries too hard for wickets, he gets smashed. We already have Siraj who is an overattacking new ball bowler. Cant afford Bumrah to do that as well. It's extremely risky and we'll lose the game in the first 10 overs. R!TTER
To add to that I'll say pretty much all our top losses in the finals or SF have been at least majorly down to bowling - 87, 96 SF, 2003F, 2015 SF, 2019 SF was at best 50/50 - we should've dismissed them for far less given the assistance to spinners. LordPrabhzy
He plays better for MI and his IPL paymasters- doesnt matter to him if he takes any wickets. Shami has carried the bowling attack for this tournament, if it wasnt for him we would have actually been knocked out and Bumrah's mediocrity would have been exposed fully- he just isnt the same after this injury. I think soon he will retire from redball cricket to focus on T20 cricket- have we got a Plan B to move on from him? Thakur, Prasidh.. jheez Link to comment

Do you expect a bowler to be gun and steady within 7 months of debuting for India. Its a shame that India didnt have any other bowlers in 2016 and all hopes were on Bumrah who had 7 months of intl cricket experience.. he even took out the best batsman of the tournament Gayle with a searing yorker in over 1. we lost the match due to dew and 2 no ball wickets.. bumrah when he came back the ball was a bar of soap 2017 - he still only had 1.7 years experience at that time.. he got a wicket of no ball completely his fault but dont forget in SF against Bngladesh his second KO in life he took 2/39.. the problem we often have in hindsight is we forget how young and novice he was and how good that from 2016 onwards we consider him as the saviour and diss him when he is off mark.. umesh yadav bhuvi nehra jadeja ashwin shami had ages of experience when these 2 matches were played.. not Bumrah singhvivek141, Number and raki05 3 Link to comment

mishra
I personally believe that only 3 Issues which mentally hit a fast bowler and he goes wayward when he bowls in a important match. Issue 1. I must take wicket in my first spell. Solution: He should concentrate on he must bowl a dot ball each ball he bowls and try getting maiden over. Under no circumstance I am going to give a boundry hitting ball. Issue 2: I am best bowler in Team and what If I dont take wicket. Then who else. Solution: He needs to be reassured that there are better bowlers within team. Shami, Jaddu, Kuldeep are there. His own bowling on a particular surface may not take wicket but others might get assistance on the pitch and get the bats out. Issue 3: Bowl to take wicket allmost every ball. Solution: Do not overtry. Reason why a bowler gets wicket on a normal match is he is not overtrying. If you overtry/overeffort in your delivery the ball most of time misses the edge instead of connecting it. Bottomline is, The approach he should take is, against him, Batsmen will park the bus, He may not be good enough to get a wicket but under no circumstances he can not bowl a dot ball or avoid boundry ball. Accept that there are 4 other bowlers, if he balls maiden or very economical, the same batsman will be forced to do something extra against other 4 bowlers. Rely on batsman making mistake against other 4 and other 4 are good enough to take wicket Edited November 17, 2023 by mishra Link to comment
Frustrated
Shami dropped an easy catch from Williamson off bumrah's bowling. Otherwise his wickets coloum would hv shown different numbers. Moreover, wankhede is a graveyard for pacers. Boult and Southee also got smashed. I back him fully to come out all guns blazing in the WC final. Yes. Fans need to show patience and faith on him. At the end of the day, he is our best all format bowler. Even if he does not get breakthroughs, he has the ability to contain the flow of runs even on a patta. That builds pressure on the batting team on which other bowlers can capitalise on. raki05 and Number 1 1 Link to comment

He gave a maiden over after that to the top order of a team chasing 400.. last 3 overs 19/1 ( plus drop by Rohit)..its how you close out not always how you start..against pakistan same.. he came back strongly..not a single player breeds that much of confidence in a bowling line up than what Bumrah does..any bowler will go for runs..but the fact that he pushes them to take so many risks while scoring them makes him the bowler he is Frustrated, raki05 and BacktoCricaddict 1 2 Link to comment

He was probably trying too many things too early in search of wickets. It can happen to the best of bowlers on a bad day. The guy averages 22 in ODIs. And has been the most economical bowler for us in this WC so far. His bowling should be least of our concerns. Rather, Siraj gives us more headache. neel roy and raki05 2 Link to comment
