Match ka mujrim

WC2011INDIA

Rohit Sharma, with Gill already back in the pavilion he should have been more careful.

India were already 80/1 in 10 overs, another 200 runs in 40 overs from that stage would have taken India to a match winning score of 280. All Rohit had to do was play some sensible Cricket but he went all Afretard today.

Lets be honest...We didn't have big match batters except Rohit and Kohli. You need batters who has big match temperament.

We won 2011 because we had many big match players Sehwag, Gambhir, Dhoni, Yuvi etc They were far more reliable in big game.

We have good batter in Gill, Iyer but they are novices...Kela and Surya are not big match players at all.. Needed someone like Gambhir who can be relied on big matches..Needed someone like Yuvi who can take few wickets and bat at 5/6.  It is lucky that we won all league matches because of good form of kohli , and Iyer scoring some good runs.

Let's not blame the pitch for this. As you can see from Head's innings, if one can apply themselves well, runs come easy. We all knew coming into this World Cup that this team is full of chokers. Ever since the World T20 final in 2014, we have been choking each and every time in every final. One CT final, two WTC finals and now one WC final. It was very much on expected lines.

In order to get past this, we have to first get past the guys we pick in the team that have been part of multiple failures. Unfortunately for us, even the new guys we have like Gill don't give a lot of confidence. Its going to take a lot of digging to find the players with the right mindset that have the ability to perform under pressure. Just look at the example of Travis Head. He is not a player who is hyped much at all and doesn't even play all the matches, but when needed in crucial games, he puts his hand up and makes it count. These are the kind of players we need to start investing in. No point in playing players who can score 50 - 60 hundreds but nothing when it matters most.

Why do you think those guys are big match players? What have they done in previous finals?

Those blaming the pitch are absolute morons.

Australia clearly had plans for every single batsman in the team.

Look at how they got Iyer. How they made KL Rahul choke under pressure and Kohli not score a single boundary.

Slower balls, bouncers etc.

When Rohit gave away the template for 10 matches in a row, it was obviously easy for a team to study each player and their weakness.

I am sure they did the math and found out that if they get Gill and Iyer out, the win % goes up to 95%

With SKY neutered it was probably 100%

They didn't need Kohli as he cannot accelerate anymore.

Seriously foolish for fans to call it bad luck when it was supreme skill and math.

Any math major would know how they played statistics on their favor.

If India won, it would have mean SKY, Gill and Iyer had to play their best ever innings. All 3 were strategized against and even in a good batting pitch they would have gotten out cheaply.

There's a reason they have both Smith and Labu in the team. Not mindless hitters. They had faith in their bowlers.
