"Rinku, Jitesh in battle to be finisher." - this article encapsulates everything that's wrong with LOI cricket selections

At any rate, there might not be room for both in the XI or even in the World Cup squad. The message coming out of the camp is that of conservatism. Rohit Sharma might be back as T20I captain. If so, it will take a brave man to announce that Virat Kohli is not playing. That will mean the wicketkeeper has to be a No. 5, which could pit Jitesh against KL Rahul, who has shown potential for that role in the past.

That means Rinku gets into the XI only if India play him at No. 7 because a fit Hardik Pandya is a certainty at No. 6. But Rinku at No. 7 leaves the bowling thin, with no room for a bad day for the four specialist bowlers after him.

What we might call conservative, India's decision-makers might describe as valuing experience, which you can't scoff at: the sustained success of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in the IPL shows the value of experience in the T20 format.

So despite doing everything right in the IPL, despite making bright starts to their international careers, Rinku and Jitesh start the series in South Africa needing to convince the team management and the selectors of their quality. And it is not just during the matches. The test of quality can come while training too, where they can be put through their paces against the sidearm.
For now, there could be room for both, just one, or neither of them in the squad for the T20 World Cup. You hope that depends on what they do in South Africa, rather than what the experienced hands do while playing roles for their IPL teams that they will not be playing for India at the World Cup.

Why can't they both be in the XI?  One of them as a keeper, and one as a pure bat?  As the #1 Rinku fan, I am a bit biased of course, but this guy has not only done nothing wrong, but has starred for this team.

He has proven himself to be more than capable of performing his role. He goes about his business with a cool head, bats exactly like he should under every circumstance, fields brilliantly and is a team-guy. At this time, he should be a shoo-in for the XI leading up to the WC.

Jitesh should be in competition, not with Rinku, but with the likes of Ishan K, Sanju S and ... cough cough ... ahem ... KL Rahul for the W/k role.

In T20s, India must breed young guns and expect them to play with nothing to lose mentality.

We have missed the golden opportunity to win an ICC tournament last month and none of the opportunities coming in recent future will be as convenient, enormous and jubilant as the one we just missed.

It pretty much is the final nail in coffin. So, leave out any expectation and play with nothing to lose mentality like we did in WT20 2007.

a young team won us first and only t20 wc. Remaining 7 we have sent experienced team with no luck. Maybe its time to go back to so younger guys who play with freedom.  Basically Rohit, Virat, Jaddu, Shami need to sit this out. Rahul and Iyer also aren't made for t20. Depending on how Pant plays in IPL he should be the only last min entry.

I am a huge fan of Pant but even before his injury he was struggling in t20s. Not sure if it will be a good format for him. He is a test GOAT and perhaps will do well in odis. But he has to (re) prove himself in t20s

Pant is not a T20 player, he does not have the mindset and composure .

Pandya should be limited to play IPL for MI only. He is not fit enough for international cricket.

Because he's the best in T20. Don't mix formats.

Don't mix meaningless bilaterals with WC either.

When the big boys come to play in the WC in the WI with the trophy at stake, the Whateverkumar will play just like he did in the last 15 overs of the recent WC..... Shots that makes one cringe.

Tilak and hardik both can combine for 5th bowler role

we need to be realistic here, how many overs of Tilak has India used? Whatever Tilak's ability is per ICF, team has decided that they don't see an use of Tilak as a part-timer or don't see utility of such a role.

Tilak is going to compete as batter with either KL/Iyer. We all know how that is going to end up.
