Biggest lesson - don't make stars bigger than the game.

We've some great talent coming through. Select team on merit and we'll win many more :isalute:

Came to this thread just to say this. So glad to see it was posted before

We need to aim to build a new team to win 1 of the 2 next T20 world cups.

1. Set a strategy for the team composition. I think we have seen we need a top 8 packed with batting talent. Batting is a strenght so we should follow this template. It means the 3 main bowlers dont need to bat but must be top draw bowlers. You couldnt go with lets say Kuldeep, arshdeep, bumrah and avesh khan unless we get generational talant like mayank agarwal who forces the composition to change.

2. We clearly need 3 all rounders in a t20 team. So need alomg.with hardick and Axar, We need a pool of 4/5 all rounders. We need to expose them over the next year, so dont understand how a all roudner like reddy is injured and replaced with a batter in dube for the zim tour? Why not another fast bowling allrounder like harshit?

3. Clear older players now, so rohit and kohli gone, jaddu needs to also retire and no more chahal, KL. Shami, or anyone over 31/32 who is not in the squad now.

5. Not sure the pant at 3 position works for us, but could he not do Dube's hitting role. I think we know pant is a clutch player who is hit and miss,.maybe 4 or 5 is his best position. Must find a consistant position and role for him. I like players who try hit the ball rather then the flicks and reverse flicks.in the powerplays. Always feel they leave something out in the field when they get out like how pant did today rather then being caught on the boundry with a full bat face.

6. Push batters who can bowl part time to continue that skill.

We had some quality part timers before esp sachins leggies, ganguly, yuvraj and viru who bowled a bit.

5. Really need to find a pool of 6 good fast blowlers and a right arm leggie. And offie. 2 sla spinners in a squad is a bit much And it showed by the amount of bowling jaddu did.

1

2

3 sky

5 pant

6 hardick

7 axar

8

9 kuldeep

10 Arshdeep

11 Bumrah

I see around 3/4 positions avialable right now, and alot of squad places.

Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Gill, Tilak Verma, Riyan Parag, rinku singh, gaikwad is a good core of batters to invest in.

Bit of worry for the leggie, offie, alrounders, and fast bowlers.

We will always have super stars, I think pant , gill , jaiswal and            A. sharma are next contenders.

Politics always gets in the way. It will keep doing so.

Make fielding non negotiable.

Give more chances to players who can bat and bowl a bit

Look for t20  adept players

Have batting depth till 8 similar to this world cup but with many part timers to fill the overs...

We are going to play exciting t20 cricket .yes we will lost quite a few matches but we are gonna win most..

I think the Indian economic set up demands it.

You need batting depth. Pure and simple. INdia showed why they didn't win cups for so long. ALso SA showed why they didn't win today. All they needed was a half decent batsman at no.7 to support Miller. But Jansen is not one.

Well said. This batting depth happens when top players go after strike rate and not average . Axar honed his skills in tests and few t20 he got to play

pandya is world class .

All rounders are like gold in this format .

1. Realize the importance of batting depth. SA had Jansen coming at no 7...that helped us.

2. Drop Jadeja from white ball formats, he is good in Tests, maybe even useful in ODI. But for T20's, hell no.

3. Pant is a fantastic Test batter, but in T20's he is too much of liability. Develop Jurel or Jitesh who can bat down the order and use the long handle. At no 6 even a cameo of 22(13) will work.

4. Jaiswal & Rinku should be the first names on the team, Jaiswal at top and Rinku at 5. Rest of the team can rotate around these two.

5. Develop bowling options...Jaiswal & Abhishek should learn to bowl atleast 2 overs.

6. Start relieving Bumrah from T20's. We have won the WC, now let's be realistic that Bumrah may only have 3-4 years left in tank. Use him for the tournaments which matter now. Don't play him every damn tournament for marketing.

Cricket is the biggest sport here. I'm sure a winning team will get more eyeballs than stars who don't win much. Make the team the "star" of the show instead of relying on a few players.

The star culture worked earlier when we had an average team and people could look at Gavaskar, Kapil or Tendulkar to feel good. Not anymore as we've a team which can beat anyone so no need to rely on the start system.

what is wrong with Indians. Why is it so hard to enjoy win instead of creating dumb threads like drop this drop that, do make this mistake, kohli is useless etc etc
