Abhishek would have challenged his position if Gill wont not do well or play his kind of t20 innings so they removed any competition - No third opener

TM don't want a situation where there are questions arising about Gill as opener due to Abishek presence ( just like in Zim). To avoid that uncomfortable situation, they simply dropped him!!!!!

 

Abishek is GOLD - he is powerplay basher and can bowl dammit...solves so many problem...

 

Anyways hoping these are just random selections just for testing purpose....T20 world cup is far away as of now....

I dont get this squad.Harshit selected for ODIs but not T20s,no Sai Sudarshan even though he has an excellent record.Abhishek dropped from T20s for no reason.only Parag given a chance with both teams which is good but he needs to bowl more.

India T20I Squad for Sri Lanka tour:

Suryakumar (C), Gill (VC), Jaiswal, Rinku, Riyan, Pant (WK), Sanju (WK), Hardik, Dube, Axar Patel, Sundar, Bishnoi, Arshdeep, Khaleel, Siraj.

 

T20  team had the highest chance to test young players as WT20 is in 2026.  Abhishek Sharma is a big miss. He should be groomed to bowl minimum 2 overs every match and cash in PP batting. 

Positives - 

1. exclusion of Avesh , Mukesh  are welcome (Still has a gut feeling Mukesh will sneak in at some point in future) .

2.Moving away from Chahal, KL - very good. 

3. Dubey - Flavour of the season. No comments. 

4. Parag - needs backing . Hope he improves bowling further to be the 6th  option if needed.

5. Wished for Nitish - Think he has not recovered fully.

Sai and Samson ignored after helping us win in RSA against all odds. 

 

In T20Is, selectors continue to ignore Venky, Tripathi, Varun C, Natarajan for no reason.

 

Abhishek omission is a scam. Just for his part time spin, he deserves a long rope.

He is there in T20 squad though.  I see a pattern here.  They hv tried to ensure that most players don't get overburdened by playing both formats on the same tour.    Otherwise nothing explains the absence of a bowler like Kuldeep from the t20 squad.

Looks like winning the T20 world cup last month will do worse for the team in the long run. It masked so many holes and so many dumbfounding decisions.

Samson outperformed Banana Rahul in SA ODIs. Agarkar is a double dholki selector. He will justify his selections in front of press by giving different kind of logics.

The fact we won the t20 world cup after those dumbfounding decisions  is in itself the biggest dumbfounding event in galaxy..

Zaleel is not needed when Arshdeep is there in T20s. Could have picked Kuldeep Sen or  Akash Deep

Looks like they want to one more shot at the ICC cup - 2025 CT or 2027 WC.  Apart from SL ODIs, India will play only 3 ODIs against Eng before the 2025 CT. They need practice.
