India beating Aus in the final group game was the clincher. Overcame a huge mental block, and demoralized Aus as well....after the Belgium loss Aussies came back strongly to beat NZ 5-0.

Holding GBR to a draw by stonewalling was very impressive both physically and tactically (and the clutchness in shootouts) as well but if not for Aussie game, our QF opponent would have been Netherlands.

we have the skills to be a top hockey team. all these western nations lack actual stickwork. they have athleticism and passing and the umps in their back pocket. If you notice, we usually get stuck in corners and we have to wait for harmanpreet to get us out by hitting the ball on the opponents feet. We have to ensure everyone in the squad learns this mindset to get us out of jams. We also need patience in passing and better penetration into their D which will lead to more PCs. We also need to do check our opponents when they have possession near their side and midfield rather than wait for them to come to our D to do the defence.

Womens' pole vault IMO.

That is also. But they don't have to be hot. But they are hot anyway. But pole vault is not a continous event like Volleyball !

In Scandinavian countries and Canada, Winter Olympics is the actual Olympics and the real Olympics is termed as "Summer Olympics". I guess it depends on perspective. For nations who get ice and snow for most of the year, those are the sports they play. They probably laugh at Beach Volleyball

My perspective is Winter Olympics is crap.

And I caught the last 15 mins of it stuck in a traffic jam while commuting from work to home...and then we won !!! It felt good. There was no gaali galoch and cursing the repeat offenders causing traffic jams,no frustrations..just pure bliss. Back to back Hockey medals after 50 freaking years. :hatsoff:

Winter Olympics is not real Olympics. To quote Chris Rock “it’s something the white man invented to make them feel better about themselves”

Privileged White men. Only rich can afford to train and compete.

India didn't qualify to Beijing Olympics in hockey.

We qualified to London but finished 12th out of 12 teams, that time we had playoffs to determine 5-12 ranks. Our worst ever performance in Olympics, lost to freaking RSA in 11th-12th classification. That was Sreejesh's first major tournament. Before that he wasn't a regular.....Adrien D' Souza and Bharat Chetri were.

Then 2016 Rio where we lost in QF to Belgium.

Bronze in Tokyo where Sreejesh's clutch save in final 6 seconds (after ref cheated by stopping the time to give Germany 20 more seconds to find equalizer) was the defining image.

Brilliant here at the age of 36, best GK of the tournament IMO. His keeping against GBR was gold standard. Retires on a high after seeing it all, from the despair of 2012 to scenes in 2024 where many Indians aren't even happy with a hockey bronze, unimaginable even during our parents' time.

What a legend. Most valuable Indian player of the astroturf era.

After winning the game today, each of our players ran to Sreejesh just like they did after GBR game. Similar to how all Arg players converged on Messi after winning 2022 WC. Shows what he means to the team.

My father still keeps reminiscing about our 1975 WC winning team, even though he is a big cricket fan. Grandfather used to call cricket a sissy sport and idolized Balbir Sr. Earlier generations had an emotional connect with hockey.

yeah by 1975, we had 8 golds and 1 world cup. at the same time, our cricket team was a poor cousin to our hockey team. I think we won our first overseas win in 67 against NZ. the boomer generation saw both sides - the downfall of hockey and the rise of cricket in India

Canada came from behind to win the semis. Now in the final. They used the word "mental toughness". I could clearly see how they threw everything despite they were all set to lose the semi final in straight sets.  Incredible come back.

Sreejesh bid farewell on a high after securing 2 bronze medals. A legend, the true wall who saved many a goals across so many matches day in and out. He will be respected forever.

On the other hand , we have the fukkkkn leaches who just wouldn't let go in cricket. Useless pos thugs who despite achieving everything continue to screw India.

@Gollum Who are our next batch of drag flickers? Any names?

Jugraj, Varun Kumar immediately next in line. Then we have some 19-20 year olds, won't comment on them now.
