For me the top 5 disappointments this Olympics were...

 

1. Vinesh disqualified and not winning a gold medal

2. Hockey team not able to get to a deserved final thanks to another hit job by the refs

3. Lakshya Sen not getting a medal

4. Archery

5. Us ending with too many 4th place finishes. Even if we'd converted 30% of those into bronze, would've ended up with our biggest medal haul

 

If Neeraj had thrown 86m then would've been sad but him throwing 89m is a pretty great result.

I am. Even though we fell short of medal expectations, hope everyone had a great time watching the action, learning new stuff, watching some sports for the first time and enjoying them. Indians should give some time to non-cricket sports as well, broadens the horizon.

Agree with your points on Neeraj's consistency.

On grass and faster courts he can. Slower courts means Stan can set up his shots better (higher back swing). Anyway matchups is a thing.

Well still our best day in these Games. I remember reading a piece from Abhinav Bindra after Rio, how we were a 2 medal nation. Was pretty hard hitting that article

 

Tbh we can confidently say we have come a long way. Now we demand not just medals but the top spots from our players. People are hurt, the staff, the coaches, more so the players. Which makes me believe, we'll come strong the next time.

I'll be honest. This was the first time in my life where I watched a major hockey final (Olympics/WC) and felt that India can beat either of the finalists, that we are on the same level. When I watched the Tokyo final or last WC final I though those top 2 teams play at a level which we can never come close to. Even in Rio final, I thought we could beat Argentina (we actually beat them in group stage back then), but not Belgium. 

 

Then Neeraj does his thing, consistency is his forte and even on a bad day he can maintain 87+....others on their bad days struggle to cross 80. He performed at his usual level and now we can forget that firangi Norman Pritchard forever. Look at Neeraj's consistency, guys like Vetter, Anderson Peters, Arshad may have higher peaks.....they are like Wawrinka, but our guys is Djokovic, the man to beat in every major competition.

 

Sleep well folks, today was one of the best days of these Games, 21 yo kid Aman has also put himself in a position to win bronze. 

Neeraj producing his career best throw in second attempt when he was severly under pressure and securing silver was legendary. He is made of different stuff.

Mentally very tough and that's why he has Olympics, World Athletics and Asian Gold. Shows up in the finals of every event, and it takes something extraordinary for others to beat him.

I wonder what Neeraj's strategy would have been if he was in bronze medal position right from the start - try to secure the silver or still valiantly chase gold.

it’s so weird. As I said these guys their families were super nice to me. Never brought up religion or other crap. However it’s weird i could see even women in the household cheering for Pakistan. In fact  I knew first Pm of Pak was Liyaqat way before Wikipedia and Google bcoz one of the guy I was playing cricket with was apparently  named that after Liyaqat of Pak. Ab kya bolun?
