Even if he dips, he will get a long rope, as he is England's best ever player (unless they consider guys from Bradman's era).   

 

If he does go past Sachin, his total will never be beaten (or at least, it will only be possible to beat it if you are English - no-one plays the same volume of tests).

A lot of English players retire prematurely after Ashes down under. It will all depend upon how his Aussie summer goes. If he is scores less than 300 then expect him to retire in 1-2 years. He won't play till 40s like South Asian players.

Can't see him declining only thing stopping him is if he is interested in getting this record.

Think Eng has won 90% tosses in tests against us since 2012. There were a couple of series where they won all tosses, 2018 is one I am sure, won 5/5.....4/4 in this series.

 

Root is great no doubt, but against us, he has always batted in the best batting conditions. Even the pitches we rolled out against Eng whenever Root played were mostly pattas, all 5 in 2016 and 24, 2021 1st test, and Nagpur 2012 too was a dead pitch with nothing for bowlers...so 12/15 tests he has played in India. Even Kane mama always got flat pitches whenever he played in India, last year he didn't play. Smith hasn't been so lucky since we have mostly played Aus on turners the last decade.

Since when saying Sachin is not the greatest batsman is termed as a criticism.Yes I would say either Root or Brook should have stayed till the end.If you ask either of them they would say the same.

 

Does anyone call Sachin's knock in Chennai against Pakistan useless.If that innings is useless this Root's innings is useless too.

 

I don't think Root is still not this generation's best test batsman even if he crosses Sachin.That would be still Steve Smith.

 

Sachin was a great batsman just like Root .
