BCCI Breaks Silence On Moving IPL 2025 Final From Kolkata To Ahmedabad: "Keeping In Mind..."

The IPL 2025's new venues for playoffs and final have been announced. Hyderabad and Kolkata were initially supposed to host the last four games before the one week suspension of the tournament. Now, Mullanpur and Ahmedabad will be hosting the playoff stage matches. "After 70 action-packed league-stage matches filled with energy, drama, thrill, and entertainment; the spotlight will shift to the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh as it gears up to host the much-awaited Qualifier 1 - featuring the top-two ranked sides on Thursday, May 29th followed by an engrossing Eliminator clash on Friday, 30th May," the BCCI said in a press stament.

"The excitement will elevate further as Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket stadium in the world will host an electrifying Qualifier 2 and the grand Final. The Qualifier 2, to be played between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator, will take place on Sunday, June 1st. The highly-anticipated summit clash, which will crown the winner of the 18th Season of TATA IPL, is set to be played on Tuesday, June 3rd."

The BCCI also divulged the reason behind changing the IPL playoff venues. "The new venues for the Playoffs were decided by the IPL Governing Council keeping in mind the weather conditions and other parameters," it said.

There was another shift in venue in one of the IPL 2025 matches. "The TATA IPL Match No. 65 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been relocated to the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, due to unfavourable weather conditions in Bengaluru," the BCCI statement said.

I'm sick and tired of the panauti stadium where the result is toss driven. Chennai, Kolkatta, Hyderabad and even Indore or Nagpur better options than that Modi stadium. If I've my way I would burn that stadium down or only hold meaningless matches there.

Kolkata is also toss driven. Most venues in India are toss driven.

26 T20 WC final will also be held in Ahmedabad.

Earlier at least there used to be rotation for marquee matches.

2029 ct and 2031 wc as well

plus 2030 cwg and one of 2036/2040/2044 olympics

In a fair world, venues like Chepauk, Chinnaswamy, Mohali, maybe even Kotla, should host an ICC final. They are iconic venues with a lot of history attached.

Except Chinnaswamy, none of them are top standard. Obsolete venues.

It's a chicken and egg situation. They are obselete as they don't get important matches so no renovation, etc is done.

It's because of weather, early arrival of monsoon. Most of the south, central and east india is seeing rains. South Indian matches were moved. Bengaluru game was also moved to Lucknow. Monsoon has already covered North bay of Bengal today itself. Monsoon arrived in Kerala yesterday, 8 days earlier than the normal onset of June 1.

You mean Modi stadium is top standard ?

Again by posting this picture, you have shown that despite being on a cricket forum for so many years, you are still a cricket illiterate.

Yes, ahmedabad stadium is world class and regarding this incident, let me explain if you can't understand why this happened. The water here is not on the outfield but a pitch on the square. If it was on the outfield, sand based drainage system would have taken care of it but there is no mechanism in the world that can dry out the water on the pitch. On this occasion, rain was sudden and heavy which led to water accumulation on the square before ground staff could cover it.  So this thing could happen on any ground in the world. Only sun can dry out if a pitch gets wet. There is no other way to do that.

Not really. All these stadiums were renovated before wc 2023 but renovation can only yield so much. Reconstruction is the only way to do that but then that will mean a huge amount of money and staying out of the game.

That is total BS. You have mechanism to cover the entire pitch.  No other professional stadium would cover pitch like this with leak.  So stop trying to be "different" just for the sake.

Voted yes as I like watching games at A’bad. Beautiful stadium with its lush outfield, relatively more bounce in the pitch, bringing quick bowlers in play, electric atmosphere, etc.

Though sad to see Kolkata miss its turn but IPL is an annual event so there will be opportunities in future. Nothing to worry about from a big picture PoV!

PS Hy’bad playoff games were moved to Mullanpur.

Isnt it the largest cricket stadium & bigger than Eden gardens that can seat 100000+ people?  BCCI just wants to maximize ticketing revenue
