Gambhir has to go if we lose this series

It is probably most pathetic test record as a coach ever with only 1 win against serious test nations against 7 losses

Now he got his way 100% with new team for this tour if still we loose he has to go as it will prove beyond any doubt that he is responsible for this failure as atleast under rahul and shastri we were very good test side

All blame but no credit I suppose. Lmao.

Won despite his crazy tactics. Batting AR should not be batting at 8.

Thrre is no such fixed position. Depending on who your batting or bowling ar is there can bat either #7 or #8.

Then again blame is not collectivised, only credit is. :winky:

It's basic strategy lol. Batting AR at 7 at best. No. 8 needs to be bowler first. Sundar barely got the ball.

Sending back Harshit, picking Nair/Sai ahead of Sarfaraz etc are objectively bad decisions. They don't become just because we won.

If we don't correct those we'll revert to the team that lost at home.

Sarfaraz earned his spot out of the team and there is no guarantee he would've done any better than either sai or Nair on this tour. It is just pure conjecture.

Jadeja was batting Ar at 7 and Sundar was bowling ar at 8. Other than that whom did we have for those conditions? Reddy and thakur?

Rana was never going to play ahead of any of Akashdeep, Siraj or prasidh. You can only point to kamboj at most.

How did he earn his spot out of the team? 2 bad games? There's no guarantee of anything, but you back young players instead of chopping and changing including bringing back a relic

Sundar barely bowled. Was used as an afterthought. Even Jadeja bowled more. We could have used Akash at 8 allowing to play 4 pacers. Why was Harshit sent back again? Why wasn't he going to play ahead of Prasidh or Akashdeep? What crime did he commit in BGT?

I would still let Gambhir go in Tests and probably bring back Bharat Arun as the bowling coach. I don't think it is going to happen but it would be better if that happens. The ODI and T20 teams are settled and any coach would not matter but for Tests we need better minds at the helm. I feel that Shubman has potential to become a great Test captain but he needs a good mentor.

Unfortunately this remarkable win and series leveling will prolong his stay. He will now beat to this drum - see how I took w rag tag team and competed with England on their turf!! We need a thinking strategic who can dissect the game. And also a people’s person. Not the yelling, classist ****. I have sure if he got mad with Siraj he would day ‘saale jhoparpatti wale, teri aukaat kya hain, etc.”

But Akash deep was out of syllabus. He was sent in as night watchmen and played well ? I still don’t know why people complain about Gambhir. He selected NKR because he had scored a century in Australia and we won the test. Sundar was not preferred because we had jaddu and NKR. NKR is injured and he selected sundar. Kamboj was a poor selection but he was one of the  highest wicket taker in ranjis so fair selection but he was proved wrong.  He is selecting more all rounder because our batting down the order has been very poor. 19 runs across 8 innings. He was compensating the lower order batting with two allrounders. Sundar not getting ball on this wicket is ok our fast bowlers bowled well. There is not much help for spinners anyway.

Sarfraz is a bit puzzling to me but to be fair Nair had county experience so a case can be made for Nair. Sai is selected purely based on IPL exploits.

Gambhir needs to be kicked out. Period!!

Get an experienced coach from Ranji cricket.

Sarfaraz being out of the team we are aware of the reasons.

Those points are not invalid but I think instead of splitting hairs over every granular detail that goes into on field decision making one needs to see where the team as a whole is generally headed and what is being built. You can always make arguments for something else needing to be done instead of what actually happened, without less batting depth for eg. we would not have given a target of 374. Phasing out Hitman and Kohli are good moves and should go to his credit even if one doesn't like him, it needed to be done for some time now.

Sarfaraz hasn't convinced me to be fair

And a coach should not have such strong dislikes.

GG didn't want Shreyas in CT, no cricketing logic behind that, he is modern cricket's best #4 at least in Asian conditions.

Didn't like the treatment meted out to KD this series, when he is at the peak of his powers. Not on Oval pitch, but he should have featured in 1/2 of the earlier tests.

Sarfu/Iyer for our #5 spot any day.

And Rana is our highest ceiling wala quick below 25. Should at least travel with the squad.

How is sending a night watchman out of syllabus? It's one of the most common thing every team does.

And he was the only option, they were not going to send Siraj who bowled in entire series or Krishnan who cannot hold a bat. The all rounders too won't be sent as night watchman.

How exactly is one of the most common things in test cricket something "out of syllabus"?

GG Positives - dropping Ashwin, Rohit & Virat, not picking half fit Shami for sentimental reasons, in general his contrarian attitude helps getting rid of some baggage

negatives - attention seeking nature, obvious favoritism, bringing bad PR with his attitude

I would say his selections in this series made sense for the most part. Only issue I have is picking Kambhoj ahead of Harshit. Unfortunately there was simply no way to accommodate Kuldeep in XI in this series, both Jaddu & Washi are absolutely vital for their batting and 3 spinners in SENA are impossible for a new captain to manage. Picking Washi as pure batsman is not only a huge gamble but also puts his career in risk by moving him out of 'spinners' bracket.. these kinds of perceptions cannot be altered in ICT once they get stuck. KD will get his chances in Sri lanka to prove that his bowling alone is much more valuable than teh balance Jaddu/Sundar offers to the team

The above poster was saying sundar was playing way down the order. I was explaining because we had to send night watch man. We wouldn’t have had sai stayed till the end.
