He did his bit in the 2nd test. 3rd test if he had done 10% of what he did in the second test we would have cruised through. That is the way luck rolls. Got out to innocous stokes delivery in the first dig.

This is not personal milestone. If someone scores 900 runs, it will help team immensely. If we lose despite him not breaking Bradman's records, it will be other batters' fault, not his. 900 runs in 10 innings means he did his part.

I hope he comes good in the 2nd innings. Twice he got out to incoming delivery.  He has to revisit his strategy.  He was standing way outside the crease in the first 2 tests. Then STokes pulled off the move of pushing keeper upto stumps. He did it on and off. Since then Gill is not standing out i guess.  He has to go back to that strategy.

That 774 was not against best WI bowlers of 71  series. Look at names of 71 WI team. Even in  78-79  series score above 700+ was against depleted  2nd string post packer saga in India.
