This is too big a topic to cover in a post. Two world cup wins, two T20 WC wins, #1 ranking in all formats, IPL which provides a handsome paycheck to cricketers of various countries - this is what I can think of.

Nothing. Other than BCCI flexing it's financial muscle we were never the innovators in anything cricket related. One needs to be proactive to lead or innovate and we will forever remain followers.

Agree.. BCCI is always resistant to change but only jump on the bandwagon when India does well in it.. T20 was facing so much opposition from BCCI but once India won T20 wc then IPL was created, same thing with DRS, the board didnt like it but now its part of every game.

Nothing innovative in cricket for sure. Mostly:

1. Financial clout

2. Bullying other cricketing nations to toe its line and ensure they face the consequences if they don't (such as cancelling or reducing the number of matches in a tour or home series with that nation, players from those defiant nations not picked in IPL etc.)
3. Bullying ICC to get the majority of revenue and ensure the international calendar is scheduled to suit it and the IPL window

4. Unnecessary jingoism and bravado, especially against Pakistan

Supporting whole world cricket financially is enough of service which BCCI is doing for last 25 years.They have changed the landscape of cricket.

 

What have ECB and ACB have done for cricket in two centuries.How to isolate other countries while profiting with most popular teams. 

 

If it was not BCCI, cricket would not have become so popular in sub continent. They brought world cup to sub continent against all odds.

And these fan boys are the cringiest ones more than the BCCI. They are the reason washed up middle order stuck around for 3 long years.  At one point Indian middle order was the worst among test playing nations. Including minnows. India did not contemplate about transition.

(1) Making franchise cricket mainstream so fringe players can earn a decent living. Other T20 leagues may have started before IPL, but IPL made it mainstream. Yeah there are some trade-offs, but fact remains that a player does not have to be in the exclusive, mostly unachievable "national XI" to make money as a cricketer. This has raised a multitude of families out of poverty. For this one thing alone, Indian cricket must be applauded.

 

(2) Audience power: Cricket survives today because of the global Indian diaspora. Nothing more to be said. 

 

Consequently, the former cricketing elites are now powerless, and that can only be a good thing.

Australia contributed lessons in how to bully and then cry when bullied back.

 

In the past 15-20 years, Indian cricketers - led by Yuvraj and Kohli - have taught the world how to stand up to these bullies.
