Rank turners means the middle order won't last long..top order and ashwin/jadeja will do most of the batting.

Star is the host broadcaster, Sky will just be using their feed. The likes of Hussain and Atherton will be there though I presume.

Don't think it's an good idea to debut Pandya right now.

Rajkot in all likely-hood will be a slow turner, where there won't be any high scores and most wickets will be taken by spinners. There's place for just 2 seamers, who have to economical and capable of generating reverse-swing. Pandya's tendancy of leaking runs would be detrimental in low scoring games.

Long tail. We will need 6 specialist batsmen + 2 bowling all-rounders against this English side.

if its Pandya and Jadja the tail is Shami. thats like a tuft not a tail actually.

Welcome to ICF   !

I agree with your team for Rajkot.

Just think that Mishra will be a better option than Jayant as he can turn the ball both ways as well as turn the ball more.  England does have many left-handers but Mishra has a good googly which he can bowl with regularity.

Pandya inclusion becomes more crucial if India to play one pacer n three spinners n him being the seamer allrounder

Shami can reverse the ball n use the new ball as well, Pandya can give 5 good overs when ball is new n then we will know if he can reverse it

I have said this about Pandya before and I will say it again.... There is nothing called picking an "all rounder" on "potential".

A batsman or a bowler usually edges ahead of others because of his skill in the other department.

if Pandya is the top 4-5 middle order bat in the country then sure he edges past everyone else because of his fast bowling ability.... Is he even the top 20 no 5 or no 6 bat in the country.

now same principle applies to him as a bowler....is he even the top 10 fast bowler in the country? Even if he is the 10th best he should jump over others for his batting ability but don't think that is the case.

the last guys who picked on this so called all round ability without being sure of what they are were jadeja and binny.... Jadeja was a fluke success as he has become a top level spinner and even today isn't an all rounder.

on the other hand our 2 most successful all rounders since Kapil Dev and prabhakar are ashwin and to some extent I.Pathan who were primarily picked as bowlers and then showed their batting skills.

even lords centurion sir aggy, kumble were all main bowlers who could bat.

this picked as an all rounder theory is bs.

watson, kallis etc were all batsman who can bowl and bowl very well.

Kapil, imran, haddlee, wasim, flintoff were all bowlers first who were more than handy batsmen.

Picking Pandya is a classic case of picking a medium paced allrounder for the sake of it. The guy is not ready for test cricket and his first class record shows that.

India don't really have an option considering the other options are Bunny, Rishi Dhawan and a washed up Irfan Pathan.

To be honest having seen Pandya bat and his technique, I don't think there is much difference between Pandya and B Kumar when it comes to test batting right now but Bhuvi is a much much better bowler. Bhuvi being left out because he hasn't played a first class match is a load of crap

I would have gone:

Vijay

Gambhir

Che

Virat

Jinx

Ashwin

Saha

Jadeja

Bhuvi

Mishra

Shami

9 decent batters and Mishra has shown to be capable to handle the bat in test matches plus 5 frontline bowlers.

Bhuvi is  not even in the team.

Pandya is primarily a batsman who can bowl. Yes, his FC record is not impressive as a batsman but it is not always about FC records. If that was the case likes of Viv Richards and Michael Clarke would not have been picked.

That is exactly the point I am trying to make...Clarke and Richards were picked on their potential as batsmen...so was sachin at 16.

Ashwin or irfan Pathan were picked as bowlers because they were identified as bowlers with special talent and in due course their batting potential was discovered....in Pathans case it was a disaster but that's another debate.

agarkar was supposed to be a player who had all round potential but he was primarily picked as a bowler.....he might have got the push ahead of some competitions because he could bat but again he was a bowler.

now coming to Pandya.....tell me this on a scale of 1-10 all skills considered what is pandyas points as a batsman and bowler and can you tell me the same points for Bhuvi as well?

now I am not advocating Bhuvi to be our all rounder...all I am saying is Bhuvi is another player who has a primary skill set of a good bowler who can bat and that puts him ahead of his peers.

tell me why Kallis was picked, why Watson and Flintoff were picked for the first time. They were not picked because of either batting or bowling. They were picked because of their whole package of batting plus bowling. It is a different case that Kallis later became a batsman who would bowl, Watson same too due to injuries slowed down and Flintoff became a bowler who would bat..

regarding Bhuvi and Pandya. Bhuvi is just another tailender. He doesn't have technique or temperament of a batsman. Pandya is a proper batsman who has not yet got enough opportunities to bat.

Depends on team's requirements. A team which already has strong top order and a good batting all rounder will prefer a proper bowler who can bat decent. Another team might prefer a proper batter who can bowl decent.

Pandya we are still not sure what his stronger suit is as his game is still developing and that's okay. India should be fine either way, a batter who can bowl or a bowler who can bat. 50-50 all rounder like Ben Stokes will probably suit India best.

Reg Pandya and Bhuvi ... purely on potential, Bhuvi can be among best 3 pacers and a good No.9 bat and Pandya can be a No.7 bat and the 5th bowler in all conditions. India with its current team make up would benefit from both but definitely from Pandya a little more.

Once the late middle order (6-8) is strengthened, India can forget about worrying before each game whether to play with 6 batsmen or 5 batsmen. They can ALWAYS go with 5 batsmen. Ash n Saha are playing well. Now if Pandya's batting can come somewhere around that quality our 6-8 is set. There's no pressure on 1 player to be a genuine all rounder but just be a part of 3-4 player group which contributes to both batting and bowling. Something similar to England (Stokes, Bairstow, Moeen and Woakes), none of them consistently good genuine all rounders but their average cumulative contributions are consistently good. And if Bhuvi can become all conditions bowler and bats at #9, that'd be even better.

I'm always looking at how we can be more competitive at away games. In India we probably can win with just 10 players or playing 3 spinners or even 4 spinners and no pacers. But the challenge or the goal is to keep winning games in India and at the same time develop and plan the team in such a way that gives them the best chance to win (or be competitive) when it tours abroad.

If things go well, this could be our XI in an year playing in let's say Aus, SA and Eng ....

Vijay

Rahul

Pujara

* Kohli

Rahane

Ashwin

Pandya

+ Saha

Bhuvi

Shami

Yadav

Plenty of batting and bowling without compromising much on either. That team looks better equipped for away games than any other XI we put on the park abroad in the last 5 years.

With India and England set to square off at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Ground in Rajkot later this year, it seems quite clear that this is going to become the 120th international Test arena in the world. Moreover, this is also set to become India’s 23rd Test match venue with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi expected to be in attendance.

Niranjan Shah, the former supremo of the Board of Control for Cricket in India also went on to reveal that the Indian Prime Minister had been invited to the event. The stadium in Rajkot boasts of world class facilities including a few architectural structures from the Lord’s cricket ground including the commentary box as well as a bell to commence the start of play.

Earlier this month, the Holkar Stadium became No. 119 to be inducted into the Test match venues affiliated with the ICC courtesy of the fact that the final Test between India and New Zealand was played at the venue. Besides hosting several ODIs, this magnificent cricket stadium has also been the home ground for the Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League.

The stadium in Rajkot is a MF'ing disgrace with its cheap copy of Lord's media center. I mean do these moon faced gits have no sense of pride in our own architectural heritage to resort to such cheap remake?

Dharamsala looks so picturesque with those painted domes.  Gujarat has so many UNESCO level sites with carvings that would blow your mind.  Go to the 10th century Modhera Sun Temple, or the well preserved step-well in Patan and you would be dazzled.

This BS is the result of a provincial mindset where 'phoren' looking things are considered the standard.
