No one was making a case of Parthiv over anybody.

Many people wanted Naman Ojha as backup keeper.

Parthiv was chosen because ojha was coming back from an injury and not ready...I don't think anyone would be complaining if ojha was playing this test...the complaint was when you had absolutely no choices, the selectors went backwards instead of looking into the future

As we all thought...it was a poor decision to choose Parthiv as keeper.

Parthiv Patel has looked decent as an opener and him opening the innings does deepen our batting line-up.   His batting style has been a foil to the more conventional approached Vijay.

Ashwin at No.7 with Jaddu and Jayant to follow, Jayant batting at No.9....does make the batting line-up almost immune to sudden collapses.   KL Rahul can bat at No.6 even.

Problem is.....his keeping is not up to the mark. I don't know much about the technical aspects of keeping.....and I am not aware of any ICF members who have been wicket-keepers and can shed light on his keeping technique.....but it looks to me as if his foot-work is not good enough. He does not move towards the ball and has to dive at the last moment to gather many of them.  His collecting against spinners is not clean either....and this pitch is not a raging turner.  If only he were  a better keeper

Summed up my thoughts about Parthiv as well.

He has a better presence than Saha, I noticed him being quite vocal throwing in a few sharp remarks when Root was batting and also seemed to be more involved in the DRS process and generally assisting Kohli with fielding positions.

But ultimately if his keeping is not upto scratch he will not make the spot his own.

Keeping still sux - that decent catch of Bairstow notwithstanding.  You can't have a suspect 'keeper in a world champ test side - we are not that desperate for batting from our keeper spot, and decent as he is, he ain't no Gilly.

many ppl have repeated that he is a suspect keeper and will likely struggle more on a more spinning track.

But he was very impressive with the bat. more confident and skilful than saha with the bat and he has improved over the years. His batting is suited for tests and he is good against pace. He has grabbed this opportunity and will likely be picked for next match too

We can consider playing Parthiv as a specialist opener with so many openers injured.   I am impressed with how he has handled bounce...can be an asset outside Asia.

Saha can keep.

Did you know that PP is one of the best players of bounce/short balls in India? He can pull them all for 4ss and 6ss. But it is also the cause of him throwing away his wicket.

I think he would have been successful in wc2015 in Australia as an opener and possibly help us win the cup. Problem is that our selectors don't know for which condition which player suits.

Pappu has played the short ball well in the IPL and in  domestic FC.  But, to see him do that in a test match against quickish bowlers is really satisfying for us fans.
