Parthiv was chosen because ojha was coming back from an injury and not ready...I don't think anyone would be complaining if ojha was playing this test...the complaint was when you had absolutely no choices, the selectors went backwards instead of looking into the future tweaker 1 Link to comment

The Realist
Patel must have relatives on high places to get picked again in tests after an eight year absence. Looks very poor with his limited skill-set and another picked from the selectors scrap heap as they did with Gambhir. Link to comment
express bowling
Parthiv Patel has looked decent as an opener and him opening the innings does deepen our batting line-up. His batting style has been a foil to the more conventional approached Vijay. Ashwin at No.7 with Jaddu and Jayant to follow, Jayant batting at No.9....does make the batting line-up almost immune to sudden collapses. KL Rahul can bat at No.6 even. Problem is.....his keeping is not up to the mark. I don't know much about the technical aspects of keeping.....and I am not aware of any ICF members who have been wicket-keepers and can shed light on his keeping technique.....but it looks to me as if his foot-work is not good enough. He does not move towards the ball and has to dive at the last moment to gather many of them. His collecting against spinners is not clean either....and this pitch is not a raging turner. If only he were a better keeper Forever Indian, AuxiliA and SecondSlip 3 Link to comment

WeStMiDz
He has a better presence than Saha, I noticed him being quite vocal throwing in a few sharp remarks when Root was batting and also seemed to be more involved in the DRS process and generally assisting Kohli with fielding positions. But ultimately if his keeping is not upto scratch he will not make the spot his own. Link to comment

You can't have a suspect 'keeper in a world champ test side - we are not that desperate for batting from our keeper spot, and decent as he is, he ain't no Gilly. Link to comment

Soorma_Bhopali
With we going to be 2-0 up in a home series, it is the perfect time to blood someone like Rishabh Pant with not too much pressure . Link to comment
express bowling
We can consider playing Parthiv as a specialist opener with so many openers injured. I am impressed with how he has handled bounce...can be an asset outside Asia. Saha can keep. Edited November 29, 2016 by express bowling SUMO, sandeep, cowboysfan and 2 others 4 1 Link to comment
CoverDrive
many ppl have repeated that he is a suspect keeper and will likely struggle more on a more spinning track. But he was very impressive with the bat. more confident and skilful than saha with the bat and he has improved over the years. His batting is suited for tests and he is good against pace. He has grabbed this opportunity and will likely be picked for next match too Link to comment

He can pull them all for 4ss and 6ss. But it is also the cause of him throwing away his wicket. I think he would have been successful in wc2015 in Australia as an opener and possibly help us win the cup. Problem is that our selectors don't know for which condition which player suits. MCcricket
Parthivs keeping was really bad even worse then a part timer, SAHA is the best bet for now in Test n India can look for Pant in ODI or Rahul n Pappu has scored some easy runs but his keeping is abysmal, he will single handedly loose us games. Pappu has played the short ball well in the IPL and in domestic FC. But, to see him do that in a test match against quickish bowlers is really satisfying for us fans. WC2011INDIA 1 Link to comment
Stuge
His keeping still a doubtful thing .He needs to improve it . Link to comment
CG
Patel is a good backfoot player he has played the likes of Lee Johnson comfortably.I was laughing when england tried to bounce him.But he is so bad behind stumps missed 4-5 chances this test.He can play as opener I guess. MCcricket
Pappus keeping is pathetic 4 drops n a stumping miss is half the side, also his game will be found out as his front foot play is non existent Link to comment
vvvslaxman
His batting and India's win cannot mask his inadequacy behind the stumps. sandeep and gakgupta 2 Link to comment
jalebi_bhai
He is a decent batsman and can be part of the 15 man squad as a reserve keeper/batsman. Good stop gap solution even though his keeping is average. Link to comment
The Realist
Patel may only be a stop-gap solution but he his batting has looked markedly more assured when compared to Vijay, Gambhir and Rahane - who have frankly been walking wickets. In fact Patel's score of 67 today is more than Rahane (63) has managed in total all series. coffee_rules and SecondSlip 2 Link to comment
