Shunya Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I think he timed it perfectly. It was obvious that all difficult tours were over and he was overloaded with many responsibilities. It was very necessary for other keepers to get this experience of playing these 10-20 Tests before going abroad and as always if the player is good he will stay longer or else we will have to try different players. Dhoni would definitely have been awesome in Indian conditions but I feel it was perfectly timed for transition. beetle, GoldenSun and BeautifulGame 3

For one small but sure thing our reviews would be drastically improved. No because playing all formats till now would have taken a serious toll on his fitness and I guess sooner or later he would have had to retire and possibly before 2019 WC. Also, he ensured new WKB and new captain with his team get a sufficient run at home and get well prepared for next run of Aus/Eng/SA/NZ tours. If his early retirement from tests means he is able to play 2019 WC then its a decision taken at the right time. beetle 1

He actually captained the difficult phase for the team when we played non stop overseas with a very inexperienced team , gave an opportunity to Virat to start with lot of home series which should help with his confidence when the team starts playing overseas again . Had he continued it would have definitely helped his captaincy/batting stats , but thats how lesser players think hanging around for personal milestones ..not MSD . You're kidding right? 1. If we lost at MCG he would have equaled the record anyway. 2. Even if we assume that was the case he could have still carried on as a player. Pretty sure he isn't even aware of any such stat, which also includes btw, him having most wins. Rasgulla 1

He was struggling awfully in one of the games we drew, could barely put bat to ball.

Prior to that in England he was one of our best with Vijay and Rahane. Had 2 brilliant innings in last 2 tests getting 71 and 82 where batting lineup folded for 150 odd.

At home with spinners being our most potent weapons, he had a great record with just the England series as a setback.
