Dhoni needs to follow Nehra

Dhoni please take clue from Nehra and retire. You never were good enough batsman in T20s but how you were allowed to play this long is the biggest mystery.

When you have one lousy half century in 80 matches, you should have been kicked out long time ago but that is not going to happen so please retire.

Veteran speedster Ashish Nehra has decided to retire from competitive cricket after the first T20 International against New Zealand at his home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla, on November 1.

According to a senior BCCI official privy to the development, the 38-year-old Nehra has intimated his decision to chief coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli.

With ICC not slotting any World T20 in 2018, Nehra apparently told the team management that it is only fair that performing juniors have a longer rope. It is understood that Nehra won't play even in the Indian Premier League's next season.

Making his India debut back in 1999 under Mohammed Azharuddin, Nehra has so far played 17 Tests, 120 ODIs and 26 T20 Internationals for the country. He has picked 44 Test wickets, besides 157 ODI and 34 T20 scalps.

"Yes, Ashish has told both Ravi and Virat that he does not want to continue beyond November 1 when India plays New Zealand at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Obviously, there is some element of surprise. One thought that he would like to continue till the home season against Sri Lanka. But he feels, it's the right time to move on," the senior official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Nehra was recently picked for the three-match T20 International series against Australia but everyone was surprised when he did not figure in the playing XI for the first two matches.

"Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are form bowlers and Ashish felt that it's only fair in the interest of the team that they continue.

"Bhuvi has improved as a T20 bowler in leaps and bounds and Ashish said that the pair should continue. Had there not been a match at Kotla next month, Ashish would have retired after playing the third T20 International at Hyderabad on October 13," the official said.

The Kotla T20 will give Nehra a chance to finish his injury-plagued career at his home ground. He is best remembered for his 6 for 23 against England at Durban in the 2003 World Cup, a match he played despite being unwell and frequently throwing up in between his overs.

He was also a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad with a match-turning performance in the semi-final against Pakistan. He missed the final due to a finger fracture. It is learnt that a few IPL franchises want Nehra as their bowling coach-cum-mentor as his expertise and knowledge with white ball is considered to be unparalleled.

I am a huge Nehra fan. The unscientific ways of BCCI really hurt the careers of Nehra and Zaheer. With proper handling and rotation he would have done much better. Great player.

Dude, not fair to blame BCCI for Nehra's injury issues.   He has a unique action that put a lot of stress on his ankle - and he isn't naturally wiry and strong a la Mitch Johnson etc.  Fast bowlers' are destined to wrestle with injuries due to the nature of the work they do.

Also, Nehra made a strategic decision mid-way in his career to forego test cricket.  He's on record saying he regretted it later.  Its understandable given the injury issues he had, and may have enabled him to play so late into his 30s.  But none of these can be blamed on BCCI.     BCCI has a lot of halkat haraami babus, and do a lot of things wrong.  But fair's fair.

Mitchell Johnson had 4 back stress fracture by the age of 24.  The reason he debuted so late for Australia in test cricket. He worked hard to become stronger and fitter. Not like he was born with that body he had.

I don't disagree.  But why blame BCCI?

yes, blaming BCCI is foolish.  It is not like he played a lot. He was never fit to play in the first place. He was just fragile. Some guys are like that. Cant do much about it. Look at VRV Singh. Every time, he tries to make a come back in domestic cricket,. he gets injured. Could only play 29 FC matches in 11 years since his debut. His FC record is still stellar but his body just could not last.

Yes we had a weird paper for 50%moral science combined with 50% GK(general knowledge)

the marks wouldn't count towards your overall aggregate but if you failed  this paper you wouldn't be eligible for a rank :hysterical:

same for us as well .. 50 marks for GK and 50 marks for moral science..

and for us , marks in hindi also wont count :phehe:

His action was unique but he was asked to go flat out for extended time. pace bowlers need to be one on one off to heal their bodies. In shor you play test one not test 2. Same for ODI. 60 deliveries is a lot.

what extended time.  It is not like he was bowling 90 mph like Umesh and Shami does.  He was a 135 kph bowler and would go down to 125 if he had to bowl many overs in tests. He always lacked fitness and stamina.  Only in his 30s, he started working on his fitness. He barely played much for India when he was young as he was always injured.
