BeautifulGame Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 320 on this wicket is defendable .At worst it is par on that wicket That was the highest score in the tournament so far. Apart from Bangladesh every other team have defended 300 scores successfully so far this tournament . The same Srilanka couldn't chase against SA .Nor could Newzealand against England Our problem is our bowlers can't wickets if the pitch is flat or in the middle overs .Every other team has bowlers who take wickets in such wickets .This isn't a new issue ,this has been a long simmering issue for India . Inability to take wickets in the middle overs. Our bowlers took one wkt yesterday .One wicket .They would have chased down even 350 with ease. Stop blaming the batsman .It's bowlers who lost it. chewy, Rasgulla, Shunya and 5 others 8
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 People say we were 20-30 runs short with the bat but the truth is even that would've been chased down comfortably seeing the way the Sri Lankans were batting. They were playing our bowlers with the utmost of ease. GoldenSun and Rasgulla 2
tweaker Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 We should bring back Shami & Ashwin for the next match. There was lot of hope on Bhubaneswar to take wickets in helpful England conditions, but he was not able to take wickets. Umesh should now raise his game when the chips are down. While bowling he looks like he is just going through the motions. Bumrah looks out of form & is not able to bowl his trademark Yorker at will. Pandya has still lot to learn. Shami is such a bowler who can bowl at any stage of the match. If he is fit he should be played in the next match. Mosher and Vilander 2
maniac Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 The new Odi rules makes odi cricket a chasing game....so yes our bowlers were toothless and no excuses for that. However even Bangla got 300 against England which England did comfortably chase and Nzl smacked around Starc, Cummins etc before they collapsed. so our batting should have aimed a lot higher especially with the kind of platform they had...350 was turned to 320. so it's the batsmen fault but the bowlers are not totally immune either Ankit_sharma03 and Rightarmfast 2
tweaker Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 We need a bowlers like Kuldeep to bowl in the middle overs

The way they were playing, we needed 380+ which we never looked like getting.

Nzl smacked Aussie bowlers batting first .Aussies were well on their way to losing that match while chasing case in point . Both SA and Eng comfortably defended lesser scores than we did today. Apart from Bhuvi no one even remotely looked like taking wicket today .That's a huge problem. Every team has attacking spinners and relying on leggies actually.Tahir Zampa Rashid etc . But Ashwin and Jadeja both are defensive bowlers in ODIs for a long time .That's a huge part of our bowling for sometime .We stupidly didn't bring someone like Kuldeep . I make it worse we are keeping out our best wicket taker Shami as well.
gattaca Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) 3 bowlers bowled bad. Yadav, jadeja and hardik. You can't win with such a performance Edited June 9, 2017 by gattaca

Rightarmfast Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Its just one match. Indians are lucky this happened now. If they have the strength, as we thought they have, they will come back stronger. Or, they will just lose their way. Either way it will be deserving! express bowling and Adi_91 2
Number Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) I agree that our bowling is not good enough but this is one of the flattest wickets in the world. Keeping strength of our bowling in mind batsmen should have at least tried a bit more in the middle overs. Sri Lanka scored 300 runs in 42 overs against England here last year and then England chased it down in 40 overs. Similarly I remember England vs NZ game where England scored some 390 and NZ got close to it while chasing, that was also on the same ground. 350 was the par score on this wicket. The problem is Rohit Dhawan etc are playing for fixing their own spot. Edited June 9, 2017 by Number
Rasgulla Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Taking just 1 wic defending 322 is just not acceptable... only phastt brigade would defend that BS from bowlers yesterday

We can say all kind of crap after match Should have done this... should have done that This is the first time sl chased down 322
kubrickian Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Part timers Gunaratne and Gunatilake bowled 11 overs for 48 runs - Economy rate of 4.3 on a patta wicket when there were 8 wickets in hand. That was really poor batting against some mediocre bowling. What was the need for that bizarre approach ? Complacency and nothing else. They just thought this would be too much against the lowly Sri Lankans and didnt try to score as much as they could. Even if they scored at 8-9 runs an over against the 5th bowling option, they would have scored 90+ runs in those 10-11 overs, meaning the target would be 360+ and scoreboard pressure would have done the rest. Please dont assume 320 is a winning score. It depends on the conditions and on some grounds, even huge scores in excess of 350 are chaseable.
jusarrived Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Our bowling failed in this match , but the batting has been below par for a while . I don't think they realize 320 is a par score in these conditions , that's a worry cos last 2 matches neither we lost early wickets or had a batting collapse , so on a good day we manage to post a par score . Few years back we would be closing on 375 on such days . As for bowling , I think Burmah does not suit these conditions which makes a big difference . Need Shami . Lord and MCcricket 2
JaDed Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Issue being we can only concentrate on our strength which is batting and defn with all the IPL experience on that pitch we should had scored much more. Jaddu was biggest underperformer, looked terrible considering he was supposed to be lethal.

rkt.india Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I believe even our batsmen got into believing that our bowling is world class and they do not strive for those extra 20-30 runs nowadays but you are bound to get such off days for bowlers. Even NZ thrashed Australia which is probably the best bowling line up along with SA in these conditions. MCcricket and Pollack 2

The problem with India is peculiar that we have a bunch of sloths who simply do not press the accelerator even when firmly in driver's seat. They are perfectly happy to cruise at a safe speed, pad up their numbers, with seemingly no concern for team's performance. Maybe if most in India were not fixated on SR and average of individuals and looked at firstly most important thing which is winning the game as a team and having the ability to play the game as it is happening instead of some old pre planned way of doing it. As a captain I didn't give a $hit who did what as long as it was done and we won. Individuals can look at there averages in their old age
