Only guy I trusted in 80-4 kind of situation was Dravid, yes, one can call him whatever but he was a tough batsman who would bail us out of these odd situations while chasing or batting first,  and no he was not always tuk-tuk in ODI's like many say about him those who have no clue what Dravid offered during his 80+ 50s which he scored for India.

Yes we did not have enough help too or consistency who could guide team to victory on more occasion along with him.

 

He had limitations for the odi game but did the "dirty" job pretty well for that era. Very useful bat in ODI dring that time.

TBF every Indian youngster not established will struggle but Jadhav is 30+ and doesn't add anything and no upside or scope for improvement... if people are not sold on Shankar yet fair enough but a Jadhav is not the long term solution.

The only batsman whom I can trust in the middle order as of now who can bat in this situation is KL Rahul. Perhaps Manish Pandey.

At 80-4 you will lose almost always unless u have helpful pitch where u need to put a score .Very few in history of odis cricket than Symonds ,Bevan,Yuvi kaif and Dhoni one innings vs Pak have done it.I think dravid played some crucial knocks lower down in natwest series with Yuvi.

We need to back both Shankar and Krunal in ODIs.

 

Both should have been in the WI in place of Yuvraj and  Jadeja.

kedar is one of our best Bats as of today, very close to Kohli. Very talented batsman with good hitting capabilities and the best part is he likes  

bouncers , he hits short balls big time.

As of that video, it looks like his pace is a little low. How old is he? He may still be able to raise his pace to low 130s.

I don't think Shankar is a good enough bat to merit selection purely as a batsman in any of the formats. And he is no all-rounder - he is better than Robin Singh, Ganguly and Binny but that's not saying much; he is not a batting all-rounder.

Jhadav hasn't done anything wrong, he should have been coming after Kohli got out as he is someone who can bat freely. He hasn't done anything wrong, but poor guy is asked to be a slogger coming after Budha Party to compensate for slow scoring.

Agreed, totally. Any youngsters at this time is fine but since Shankar can do both the things, need to be backed because of that.

 

I mean look at Jimmy Neesham, guy was bowling 140+ against South Africw in series before CT, he used to be 125k bowler.

 

Similarly Shankar can improve. Plus his batting will only make his bowling better.

Shankar is not a "bowler" - he is more of a Robin Singh/Binny type option with the ball. His List A record has been getting better though with bat and ball.

Of them only KP (Krunal Pandya) can bowl 7-8 overs on a consistent basis. The Hood's bowling has regressed a lot since his debut FC season. Shankar seems to be improving as bowler over seasons, but I am not yet convinced he can bowl 7-8 overs if required.

I know that he isn't,  but even his batting, yes just based on his batting he can make the Indian team.

 

Bowling he does well or not depends on him how much hard work he will put, but he shouldn't miss out the Indian team slot just because he is not an all rounder at this time.

 

He is a brilliant and consistent bat who can be fast tracked.

i've seen him in ranjis and some domestic list a matches. doesn't make the cut as a batsman alone imo. for me, ipl is not always a reliable indicator of success.
