Checks in The Wall

Always wanted Dravid to be associated with the Indian team and him as a batting consultant or batting coach will be really good for our youngsters and even for our established players who might find themselves in tough situations when playing overseas.

He is someone who can bring players out from a decline phase and I think he can be really helpfull to someone like KL Rahul in shaping his test career which has started well or even to the trio of Pujara-Kohli-Rahane.

I think he will he more important to our test side than ODI side but his tips will help players across all the formats. He has pretty much batted in every situation, whether batting in a dominating position or when there is a hope to win the game. That experience and how to stay confident and not over-confident and to back your ability rather than focus on your weaknesses at the start of the game, is what will be helpfull when he shares that with our players:

If a player gets out cheaply while playing a poor shot, or having a bad run which could result in getting him dropped, Dravid waiting in the dressing room to talk to him is the best thing Indian players can hope for.

India in trouble, in comes The Wall.

Shastri has Zaheer and Dravid whom he can shift responsibility to and also throw under the bus when needed and shift blame.

My hope comes from Dravid after reading all the negativity being spread from the appointment of Shastri and from keywords like Politics, bcci, fake etc.

Appointment of Dravid should keep a balance between Shastri, Kohli and Dravid as players picked would be well consulted before making their way into the final x1.

Great addition.

Dravid Should have been the main coach or full time batting coach-sharing responsibility with bangaar is a shame-what is bangar still doing there

Zak is a good choice-is he full time though

Sridhar wtf throw him out now

Shastri enough has been said-disgraceful

Which words do you disagree with?

Dravid is just batting consulatant. Doubt he has any powers to override Kohli-Shastri combo and especially in selectione where there is monopoly of Kohli. His inputs if in conflict with Kohli-Shastri would be treated like toilet paper just like kumble's.

That I don't agree.

We don't need much of a batting coach in India .Even someone like Bangar is enough if any minor issues or organize training etc .

There are also the likes of Pujara and Kohli to mentor any new comers in India and most of our legends will always be available as well.

And most importantly our U-19 and A team will benefit more from having someone of Dravid as coach.

So this arrangement is better imo.Having him as consultant for just overseas assignments where our batters find it tough .

I just hope this isn't Shastri using him as a scapegoat and throw him under the bus if things don't go well.

I think he'll be better off guiding youngsters in U-19s and India-As. These Indian players think they have some kind of a crown on their heads after becoming a part of the Indian team and that they deserve to be in the team all the time once they are regularly in the side.

what kind of gimmick is this overseas batting coach, what does this even mean, just travelling with side abroad i.e out of subcontinent?

BCCI mandarins are past masters of managing and manipulating the public expectation. Do not for a moment think that they are unaware how the news of Shashtri's appointment would be received by the wider public. Hence the astute appointment of Zaheer and Dravid in impotent roles of consultant to cushion the blow. Already on this forum you can see how people are discussing the 'positives' of these two appointments. The policy is to keep the paying public distracted from the real con job.

so trying to suggest bcci already knew shastri becoming coach will not be accepted by general fans and they tried to compensate, and do you really think they care of what general public feel or think?

In this case coach=chef.

Dravid will be overseas chef while Bangar will cook for home tests.

And a "batting coach" is a non-existent position. By the time a player reaches international level it is usually too late to change techniques and batting styles so all Dravid will be doing is cooking and being a tourist.

You are wrong, there are adjustments which every batsman has to keep doing especially overseas. That's where there coaches comes in.

We have tours to Sri Lanka and South Africa lined up. Our overseas batting coach averaged 33 and 29 in those countries.

Whats is Bangar's role?

Is he batting coach Only for Home series?

He's going to do all the work that the Head Coach is supposed to do - making sure that the team is getting condition specific and opponent specific practice, overseeing the routine nets etc - Head Coach is going to to puff his chest out in a smaller size "India" Shirt, and pose for authoritative pictures with kaala chasma on.

Dravid and Zak are good. What is a potential bad situation is below.

1, They are consultants - so are inherently expendable as a position.

2, BCCI need not give an explanation as to why they let them go, but rumor mills can be fed with  blame shifting from Shaz uncle to Dravid or Zak which would be pretty bad.

3, Shaz uncle can continue for some more time with other 'consultants'.

More like calm factor to the players due to his demeanor than anything.

Most popular coaches  today are failed players or were not so popular players when they played for their country or some of them did not even play.

Rahul might have had low average but the sense and responsibility talk and demeanor which he will bring is going to be vital
