He has a batting SR of 93 after 40 T20Is.

I did not know such low SRs existed in T20s before checking Jadeja's stats.     :phehe:     And he bats at No.7 or No.8

wow and ya this guy is supposed to be a lower order hitter

No way you compares with Axar and R.Jadeja

Axar is limited over bowler while RJ fits more for test matches,BCCI told him to play county cricket right after Second test, they wants to experiments Chahal/kuldeep and Axar, even ASH will also will play for WORCESTERSHIRE after 3rd test.

If India needs Ash after 2 ODI (Aus) he will returns in India otherwise stays in England till their seasons over.Australia will tours India for 3 ODI +3 T20 right after 2 test vs Bangers in BD.

Rahul and Pandey will be in playing 11 for sure. No place for hahane except as opener...there too he is no good. Selectors and team management have realized that and that's why he has been termed "floater" like the stuff that floats in the toilet in the morning. Hopefully, this floater will be flushed down soon.

Negatives:

1) Rahane. Let him rediscover his LOI batting by dropping him.

2) Dhoni : Selfish and Chipkoo.

3) Axar Patel: Mediocre.

Positives:

1) Shardul being rewarded.

2) Y Chahal and Kuldeep both in squad.

3) No Yuvi.

Siraj, K Pandya and Pant should've been there in squad. Siraj resting Bumrah. Pant in place of Rahane. K Pandya in place of Axar.

Can someone explain why dhoni has to play an useless series against SL if he is not insecure of his place? R Pant being dropped. Suspicious?

When was it ever discovered in the first place? :hysterical:

Yuvraj, Raina Sidelined After Failing 'Yo-Yo' Endurance Test

Yuvraj, Raina Sidelined After Failing 'Yo-Yo' Endurance Test

New Delhi: The failure to clear the 'Yo-Yo' endurance test at the National Cricket Academy was the primary reason why Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina were not considered for the Sri Lanka limited overs series.

The Indian team regularly undergoes a series of fitness tests with 'Yo-Yo' endurance test being the most important of them.

It is an advanced version of the 'beep' test that was used by teams of earlier generations. The current Indian team is considered to be the fittest by a fair distance.

It has been learnt that for the current Indian team, the acceptable 'Yo-Yo' score is 19.5 and upwards. Captain Virat Kohli, easily the fittest Indian cricketer, scores around 21 in the test.

However both Yuvraj and Raina have scored well below the permissible level of 19.5 with Yuvraj barely managing to touch 16, which was the biggest reason for his ouster.

"The current team think tank, coach Ravi Shastri, skipper Virat Kohli and chairman of selectors MSK Prasad have made it clear that fitness standards are non-negotiable.

"On an average, the Australian cricketers score 21 in Yo-Yo test. Here Virat, Ravindra Jadeja, Manish Pandey regularly hit that score while others are either touching 19.5 or is hitting above that score," a BCCI official, who cannot come on record, said.

"In an earlier era, when the traditional beep test was in vogue, the Indian players of the 1990's would have scored around 16 to 16.5 barring a few like Mohammed Azharuddin, Robin Singh or Ajay Jadeja.

"But now it's different as the skipper himself is hitting the benchmark, which the Australian cricket team sets it," the official added.

Just for understanding, how the Yo-Yo Test works.

Cones are placed to mark out two lines 20 meters apart. A player starts with his foot behind one of the lines, and begins running when instructed. Player continues running between the two lines, turning when signalled by the recorded beeps.

After each minute or so, the pace gets quicker. If the line is not reached in time, the player must run to the line turn and try to catch up with the pace within two more 'beeps'. The test is stopped if the player fails to catch up with the pace within the two ends.

The entire process is software-based where the results are recorded.

It must be noted that the same test for football and hockey team will produce entirely different results, have higher benchmarks, considering the speed and endurance level involved with the sport.

Also, Krunal instead of Axar would have been preferable.

Axar is the better bowler.  Krunal can be more destructive with the bat, but Axar's bowling edge over Krunal is greater than Krunal's batting edge.

But no surprise that a big chunk of phans want new and shiny names instead of the one that they have already seen.   Kuch nayaa lao.

Yes.... Axar is a better option at No.8  as that is a slot for a bowler who can hit some big shots.   Axar fits the role.

However, Krunal needs to be groomed as a backup for the No.6 or No.7 slots ..... slots for high SR batters who can bowl too.  Otherwise, if one of Hardik or Jadhav is injured, we won't have anyone for those slots.   Vijay Shankar would qualify for this role too but Krunal is perhaps the better hitter.

Shastri wants India to be the best fielding side at 2019 World Cup

India's coach Ravi Shastri has prioritised fitness, and wants his side to be the "best fielding XI" at the 2019 World Cup. Shastri's comments echoed those of India's chairman of selectors MSK Prasad who, while naming the squad for the upcoming limited-overs series in Sri Lanka, stressed fitness would be the key parameter while picking the World Cup squad.

"When the time comes for India to field a side for the 2019 50-over World Cup, we should have the best fielding XI in the world walking out," Shastri told the Times of India. "Only the fittest of the lot will survive and thrive going forward and that's right up there in the list of priorities."

Its not a case of "phans wanting naya lao". We have already seen how destructive Krunal can be with the bat in two successive IPLs now. His List A record is also respectable and he has a decent bowling ER in both List A as well as T20s. So, he should be able to comfortably slip in 6 - 7 overs. Axar would be my second choice for the spot, but the team composition would be different in that case.

The following team combination can be played if we include Krunal, which gives us good batting as well as bowling options:

1. Rohit

2. Dhawan

3. Kohli

4. Dhoni (prefer Pant here, but he is not in the squad)

5. Jadhav

6. Krunal

7. Hardik

8. Kuldeep

9. Bhuvi

10. Shardul/Chahal

11. Bumrah

This gives you top 7 batsmen who can bat well, 8 & 9 are average batters who have scored FC hundreds, Thakur who can use long handle and then a bunny number 11.

In bowling, you have 4 or 3 pacers and 2 or 3 spinners along with part-time spin from Jadhav making for a total of 7 options.

One thing is that the Prasad fellow shouldn't have made the statement on Dhoni. I agree that if Dhoni doesn't perform he should be dropped, but why single out Dhoni in the media?

Even if he was asked about Dhoni in particular, a generic response would've been more professional: "We are evaluating all the players in contention for selection based on current form and performances. All players will be selected on merit."

Means there is no harm for him in putting down Dhoni, all dhoni power influenze etc is a myth he will be dropped if he does not play well. Which is ok.

They could have easily retained Pant and dropped Rahane.. all in all good selection I would say. Here's my XI for the first ODI -

Dhawan

Rohit

Kohli (c)

Rahul

Pandey

Dhoni (k)

Pandya

Kuldeep

Chahal

Bhuvi

Bumrah

Bring it on!

srilankans bat very well against Spinners.. i am not too sure of the Success of both these Spinners ..though both are truly capable to turn the ball.Lets See what the leg spinner chahal does as if he does not suceed kuldeep will become the spinner ahead of these two and when ashwin or jadeja return to odi team , one of these 2 will be dropped.

i dont expect both these spinners to do too well in ODI's as the tracks will not be turning and may be flat tracks.

Yes shardul is good and may suceed and so will the other deadly pacers bhuvi and bumrah.

Good question. :nice: Interesting, isn't it?

i can 100 percent be sure that Ashwin cannot score more than raina in the YOYO Test.

Raina is pretty good as far as fitness is converned..i know uv may not pass but raina has always be fit enough.

i am surprised that raina failed yoyo test fitness
