I say play Rohit and Dhawan in next 2 matches as well and then drop them permanently ( cos they'll sure shot fail). I'll be okay with that.

That can only happen to likes of nair but not these 2.....and most importantly a series loss in SA for that is not worth it.

Don't underestimate the power and influence of bunty sajdeh over kohli. As some of you mentioned, dhawan will be dropped for Rahul. But the difficult decision will be for kohli to let go of Ashwin for rahane. At the end of the day he is an Indian captain and he won't be comfortable going in without a spinner especially when none of our batsman are capable of bowling to the standard of (forget Sachin) even Raina or jadhav. He will need a spinner to improve the over rate of the saffers bat well. So things in consideration dhawan for Rahul and maybe they will say Shami is injured and bring in ishanth at max. But even that iam doubtful.

However bunty's brother in law Rohit will stay in the team. If he is dropped from the team for rahane, then we can agree that kohli isn't corrupted to an extent that we should call him shameless.

drop useless pujara, rohit and dhavan for the good. Play Jadeja too.He along with Ashwin ,Bhuvaneshwar,Saha & Pandya can provide more runs than these 3. Shami,Bhuvi,Ashwin,Jadeja ,Pandya & Bumrah can form 6 bowlers .Then go with 4 batsmen.

Going by the averages itself Ashwin+Bhuvi provides the effect of a specialist batsman.Jadeja+Saha forms the effect of another specialist batsman.Hardik is the all rounder. Then 4 batsmen along with 2 specialist bowlers in Shami & Bumrah are only required.

I think drop ashwin and play rohit in his place and add rahane, we need more batsman at centurion.

seeing rohit's batting ..i have realised he cant suceed in africa as he defends and when he tried to hit , he gave an easy catch to maharaj , he should play odi only where tracks dont swing much ..i wud select rahul and rahane ahead of rohit and even Murli Vijay, Vijay looked Bad , even worse than shikhar dhawan on the track. he was not able to handle vernon, steyn or any bowler with confidence, i kinda never liked his defence , his defence was only about leaving balls and Pujara is much better.

Mark my words. Kohli/Shastri is going into the 2nd test unchanged!!

i dont think so kohli has criticised the batting and kind of clearly hints that there would be changes in the batting line up.

i think we can go n take a chance to take pandya and 3 pacers as the bowling attack and even dump ashwin.

we can pump in 6 batsman and saha and pandya ,bumrah, shammi, bhuvi if all are fit bowlers dont need to be changed as they did a great job in second innings.

rahane rahul kohli vijay cheteshwar . i have no hope from rohit sharma and actually prefer dhawan to rohit. saha can play.

Well it has been suggested open with patel. As Saha is walking wicket and patel lends balance as frankly he could make team as pure bat .

risky as patel glove work is poor . But here it’s all about standing back to seamers and he will catch most of them . Standing up he is pants but won’t have to basically

so you could do

vijay

raul

patel

pujara

kohli

rohit / rahane

pandya

ashwin

bk

shami

bumrah

suddenly batting much more depth . Rohit or rahane at 6 . Plus ashwin who is decent at 8 . Stil 5 Bowlers . Food for thought

It takes a brave man to gamble on what team kohli picks. He could make the obvious change and swap lokesh, rahane woth rohit and rahane, or he could swap them with vijay and pujara instead.

Heck he can even replace shami and BK with Ishant and umesh. I woudnt bet against anything. I saw a crazy stat on  reddit that said that kohli never picked the same test team twice.
