Kohli is a great run getter and might ( and it's a very BIG might) surpass tendulkar's achievements but his strokeplay is no where near sachin's.  People call kohli arrogant but he's not arrogant at all, in fact sachin was the arrogant one, sachin's arrogance led to his downfall many times, sachin tried to dominate the best bowlers in the opposition, the way he took the attack to mcgrath in nairobi, the way he took out akhtar in 2003 wc is stuff of legends. Sachin wanted to dominate the best in the opposition, go watch his knock vs australia in 1996 wc where he singlehandedly destroyed mcgrath's bowling figures.

 

Kohli on the other hand is very smart and calculative and has a great temperament, he never  tries to go for the big shots or tries to dominate the best bowler in the opposition, this is one of the biggest reason of kohli's success, kohli reads the game very well and plays out the best bowlers in the opposition without taking too many risks. Kohli's biggest asset is his brain and his attitude. 

 

Both sachin and kohli are legends but when it comes to pure batting brilliance no one comes close to sachin.

His game was on another level for those who have seen him live in the 90s and early 2000s will agree.

Sachin can only be matched by lara of all the batsman I have seen. May be viv as well.

Lets move on. He retired half a decade ago still the forum is discussing so much about him.

It is hard to say who is the greatest. Sachin, Kohli, Bradman, richards were all greats of the game. Rest is starting controversies and nothing else.

Based on consistency yes...

 

Saying Sachin is greatest batsman is like saying range rover is the greatest car... People will not be offended, but they will ask is it based on all purpose usage then yes, but...

 

You have to remember that There are muscle cars like Bentley, supersports cars like Ferrari and McLaren cult cars like Mustang, passion for driving cars like jaguar, excellently engineered cars like Benz, hybrids like BMW...

 

Same way even among batsmen there are muscle players like Viv, technical excellence like dravid, pure will power batsmen like kohli etc.. who are greatest in their own perspective 

 

Sachin is like range rover, the all purpose SUV king on all roads, emperor of none.

Sachin ne tujhe kya bataya wo tu hi jaane, but kohli ne poori duniya ko bataya hai ki uska koi comparison nahi Sachin se, sachin is leagues above him, yakeen nahi aata to breakfast with champions ka kohli wala episode dekh le

Depends what you mean by greatness . As a complete batsmen , pure batting brilliance Tendulkar over anyone . The only other batsmen who checked most parameters be it technique or talent and would be close second is AB . I haven't seen any other batsmen have the amount of time to play shots as these did. Technically I think overall superior to Dravid who I rate very highly . 

 

Virat though has already surpassed him in terms of achievements , dont care about filters like WCs , away matches etc etc . Where virat scores heavily over tendulkar is his killer instinct and playing to win above everything else . Some one mentioned that Tendulkar wanted to dominate the best bowlers , true ..but I would pick Virat over him for the exact same reason , hes calculative and curbs his attacking instincts cos its more important to stay on and take calculated risks rather than try dominating a bowler and prove a point .
