Dinesh Karthik: Time to accept he can never be the player we expect him to be.

He looked fine in second inning. Got a good delivery from Anderson.  We seem to be running around circles instead of accepting that Anderson and Broad England ATGs and at their home, we will truly special efforts to win games.

He did fine in the second innings, in fact had he batted ahead of Ashwin we may have had a far greater chance to chase the target.

Nah, that Ashwin move was fine. I feel we need to change the batting order completely.

I want to give him all 5 tests unless he keeps horribly.

He shouldn't be the keeper, we can slot him as an opener for Dhawan or Vijay. Drop both if you want KL to open as well, Pujara may come in at 3 with Pant at 6, DK was really horrible to the pacers.

How many balls did he drop.. tune will change when those are of edges.

Don't know how Pant is with the gloves so can't say whether he will be an improvement but still England showed faith in Curran and were rewarded.Time for India to learn something from them

Karthik is an useful player. However, my selection process is like this for test in no particular order:

* Batsmen: Pick the 5 best batsmen based on conditions and form

* Bowlers: Pick the 4 best bowlers based on conditions and form. For bowlers form and fitness are very important

* WK: Pick the best WK option

* “X” Slot: Ideally, by doing the above the team should be optimized to take on the conditions and opposition. Last slot is the “X” slot for me, where I bring in a player who can potentially turn things, provide flexibility, or help to leverage on the strengths

For Karthik to be in the 11, he has to be either the one of the top 5 batsmen based on form and conditions, or the better wk option, or the “X” factor

      In form & Conditions - Best 5 batsmen ...

       VK

        Then  ....

        .......

        ........

        ........

Forget it , not able to reach even a count of 2 .

Exactly, which is why I would consider Karthik as a batting option to optimize the batting portfolio considering others are struggling

Karthick  has a good track record in ENG  though his over all test record is not up to the mark  and hence not a long term choice. And him being a keeper  also , he deserves his chances.I think he will perform at a satisfactory level  if played in all tests.Problem is with other 4 of the top order apart from Kohli, especially  that hack Dhawan.

Vijay too seems falling apart. His first 5 inns in ENG  were superb that covers  the utter flops in next  7 inns. Rahul the new comer too adds to the problem
