To me, Jadhav doesn't inspire confidence as someone who can bat for a long time in an ODI and build an innings around,  such as in the CT when both Rohit and Kohli got out early, I wouldn't trust him to build a long innings from there as he doesn't seem adept at taking the quick singles. I can see him getting promoted to 4 in situations where quick runs are needed, but otherwise I personally am not seeing it.

You don't need to take quick singles to build a long innings. You need to stay at the crease to build a long innings. Taking quick singles isn't the only way to score runs. And Kedar Jadhav's strike rate proves that his way of scoring runs is effective, even if it is different from the way Virat Kohli scores runs. The guy has scored over 1000 runs in a Ranji Trophy season at a strike rate of over 80, which again must be unprecedented.

It is possible, but I think there is a reason top teams  fill the middle order with players who are able to work singles. Kohli, ABD, Root, Morgan, Smith, Clarke, Faf types are the  I think this is a reason Rahul struggles as well so far when at 4, inability to work singles.

Would like to see this guy get a crack at no3 just to make sure he is capable of playing long innings. His 100 against England was thing of beauty.

His Fitness along with Rayudu's fitness is a concern.

I know ideally Karthik would replace MSD in the line up but let's be realistic here, who would you pick at number 6 between Karthik or Jadhav?

I feel there are pros and cons to picking both. Jadhav gives you a 6th bowling option and a power hitter down the order. But his fielding is poor and his fitness is also very suspect.

Karthik is the better stroke maker and is a much better fielder and athlete. But we lose the sixth bowling option by playing Karthik.

The least Dhoni could've done is bat at number 4 and bring his so called experience to the fore, this will allow leeway for flair players like Karthik and Jhadav but batting at number 6 is more comfortable for him and team balance is sacrificed

I am going to cheat and say this is a false choice. Both should ideally be in the XI at least for this WC.

DK thus far has outperformed Pant with the bat. If Dhoni retired and it was down to these two, only for the WC, DK over Pant (unless Pant catches fire that is and lives up to expectations of course).

If I had to choose, then Jadhav over DK because of his great bowling resume thus far!

Karthik for dhongi hands down

Jadhav is a short term.investment till wc

But Jadhav's dodgy fitness can hit  team's  fate any moment

Spot on. Lol Jadhav is such a high risk player. He could break down during the middle of the game and leave us stranded. His fitness is so iffy that he could break down in every match he plays. He can bowl. Let us not pretend he is no Yuvi either with ball or bat. Poorer version of inform Raina. Unless he is 100% fit there is no way he should play.

Only because Dhoni is 99% nailed on to play the WC.

Ditto. We got a massive let off in the Asia Cup final as the target was sub par.

Now imagine him breaking down in a WC SF scenario with 100+ runs still to score :fear1:... it's not as straight forward a decision as people may think. Also to be noted, he's done his hamstring 2-3 times this year.

Team definitely needs a 6th bowling option....but is Jadhav the undisputed choice?

Play DK no problem. But once you are playing dk, no more funny business picking krunal. Pick the more aggressive wicket taking bowler chahal. So even outside bhuvi, Hardik we go in with three bowlers bumrah, Kuldeep and chahal who are aggressive wicket taking options. This puts a lot of pressure on Hardik to finish his entire bowling quota and frankly nothing can be done about it. Meaning even on his worst day, he needs to move on and complete his 10 overs.

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

KLR

MSD

DK

HPandya

Bhuvi

Kuldeep

Chahal

Bumrah

Jadhav provides better balance.

how better balance....at this point jadhav is a better batsman...but hasnt done justice to it either

krunal bowling n fielding are both better then jadhav

Dhoni is totally screwing our chance to win the cup as has been posted by probably all members on this forum. Horrible waste of crucial spot in a major event.  Seriously BCCI is lucky that Indian fans are still following this game after so much of stupidity in his selection.  Prasad is the most dumb selector I have ever known.
