Can you read this again and tell me how surreal this sounds. “All those double centuries” I am not a big fan of Rohit the test player but when you have a player or his stature, you need to make the best of his abilities. Clarke
Yes! Smash those trundlers: Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood & whoever for sixes into oblivion! Lyon is a spinner anyways, will go crying to his mommy in the first over. Oh wait UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
Vijy
Rohit in Tests and in ODIs is very different. Look at Bevan for example. Muloghonto and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment

Only in South Africa, can you say Sehwag was a genuine failure, but then again, he was a middle order bat, put into opening against one of the best fast bowling attacks of all-time in their own backyard. If you look closely, his failures in ENG, AUS, etc. were part and parcel of his cycle of good form and bad form - IMO he was unlucky that his SENA tours came mostly in his bad form cycle period. Muloghonto
Anyone who says ' XYZ is awesome at opening in ODIs, lets try opening with him in Tests' has just given direct evidence of knowing jack $hit about cricket. There is a reason why Sehwag is the ONLY successful middle order batsman opening in test cricket. In ODIs, weakness outside off-stump can be glossed over due to lack of slips. In tests, weakness outside off stump for an opener = Darren Ganga-esque average. Period. philcric 1 Link to comment

Period. langer was another top-order batsman (but non-opener) who became a fine opener. there are quite a few openers who avg in the 40s (in tests), who started out in the top/middle order - jayasuria, gayle (in first few tests). but it's very rare to find such players. mostly, middle-order batsmen who moved into test opening have generally tended to be quite aggressive.
