Very predictable selection... Team needed fresh blood

This is a very predictable selection, not a single move to blood in new talent. Would have loved to see Shaw or Mayank get a chance. But this selection committee does not have the balls to do that. Just picked a "safe" team that nobody can question. Even if team loses, they will have common explanation that they picked the best team possible.

A big tournament needs experienced players.  Even if they are young, you need some experience behind them.  You cant blood rookies in a WC squad straight away.

Because it does work sometimes. Remember T20 World Cup 2007? We went with completely new captain and team...... And we won!

There is a huge difference between T20s and ODIs.

Gill was tried but flopped in NZ. Shankar at this moment is good enough to score in 30-60 range. They should have started this experiment as soon as we lost previous WC. Almost 4 years have been wasted and we see same faces yet again as the new comers are not yet developed due to bad planning.

Gill lacks the ability to hit in death overs. Also Shaw has adapted to international stage by scoring tons in limited opportunities he got (2 Tests) by top scoring for Team India. However he was injured and hence could not be tried in NZ series.

Iyer is another candidate. Has ODI average 42 and SR 96 which is very good for someone stepping into next level.

You don't blood new talent at the WC.. They needed to do it building up to the WC, not at the WC..

Wishful thinking by many that Shaw or Mayank would make a debut at the WC..

I am not that disappointed, batting lacks firepower so there was thought back in mind about Pant  being there to make for that. However, it is just a thought with Pant at the moment, as they say dikhane wala thapad maarne wala nahi.

Gill hardly got any chance to be fair. Would have been an ideal pick for 4. Can't keep playing same old same old that does not provide the spark of new talent.

Not really. We won 83 WC also with newish team. Majority of players were under 30.

Were they inexperienced? New does not mean inexperienced team.

Aussies picked Shaun Tait for 2007 WC having played only 3-4 ODIs. He ended up as 2nd leading wicket taker with 23 wickets at avg of 20.And India picked all experienced oldies and the result was utter humiliation.

Aus is good in sports in general for a reason. Ind does not have any vision and usually is reactive, and lags in sports

Tait wasn't an automatic selection, it was due to Brett Lee's injury in NZ series prior the WC. He got the chance & grabbed it with both hands.
But I agree that our selectors lack vision & have wasted a lot of time to try out other young players in recent past.

Rayudu again showed why you don't invest on over the hill 33 year old player. They could used all the time they wasted on Rayudu in giving some young kid like Iyer or Gill with an upside to stay in the side for decade.

This is such a big blunder by everyone involved.

Yes, they didn't have much experience. Our most experienced teams have fared the worst.
