Is Shakib a more valuable ODI player than Sanath Jayasuriya?

It's same reason as Kallis will never be considered a great all rounder in ODIs, both him and Shakib are good but never been match winners or importantly guve an impression of being match winners

You don't have to literally win matches, but for e.g. yesterday Sakib weathered the early tough spell from Archer, but just went on to score a run a ball 100, and never really took on the Enland bowlers, the intent was there but unfortunately the skill and power game to hit those sixes he doesn't have 

To be honest, little Mushy Rahim is bigger match winner than Shakib, despite his size Rahim was better at finding games and taking a Rashid

Jayasuriya is overrated. Averaged 21-22 against top side of his era that too with many lucky and fluke innings. He bullied indian trundlers and that's reason most indians hype him.

Shakib's stats are inflated by playing a  relatively larger share against minnows.

 

More over Jayasurya and Shakib has about '2 decades' difference  between them.  the stats of Jayasurya  needs to be analysed based on that.For instance his avg:.str of 32.36,91.2 would come around to 40.5,108 of today. Shakib's bowl avg: of 37+(vs non minnows)   would come around  30   in that era. So Jayasurya was a comfortably better batsman while Shakib better bowler. All in all  it has to be Sanath because of the impact player he was.

Jayasuria was an impact player and a better batsman than Shakib, whose avg is boosted by knocks against minnows, pointless matches and NZ. Having said that, he is far better than Jayasuria as a bowler. This gap in bowling is even more clear in Tests, where Shakib is pretty much a frontline bowler. Despite his achievements, I don't rate Shakib very highly as he boosts his stats whenever he can like Kallis.

Pretty much this.Check out shakib's stats ,which team he played against ,where he played those matches (mostly at home or Asian conditions) ,how many matches outside Asia and whsts his bowling /batting performances?

But that aside shakib does well for Bangladesh in big matches

He and Kaluwitharana changed they way ODi was played back in 1996 world cup i.e Taking advantage of first 15 overs .You are basically undermining one of the most explosive opener of its time.

Jayasuria was a great ODI batsman and a more than useful but partime bowler. Shakib is a true allrounder, a bowling allrounder. I would pick Jayasuria and Afridi ahead of Shakib in my ODI team as they were bigger match winners  . BD is yet to produce great cricketers and Shakib is easily their best production so far hence so famous. Shakib is a good allround but I won;t call him great by any standard.

They are also forgetting his forearms and shiny bald head, both of which are among the greatest I have seen.
