Why didn’t Tendulkar retire after WC2011?

Why didn't Dhoni retire after 2015 WC. Dhoni has stayed 3 years too many. Tendulkar was our top scorer in 2011 WC and was performing as good as any. Why would he have retired if he was doing well. While Dhoni has lost us umpteenth games in last 3 years.

The 100th hundred baggage sunk him. He was in superb form and looked all set to play a year or two scoring a lot more runs.

Sachin decided to overstay because he was thinking he could play next World Cup in 2015 and hence tried to prolong his career by skipping series and then playing odd series here and there. However, when he came back after skipping few series, he was very rusty and played slow, bit same what Dhoni is doing now even after playing in every series. Seeing his own form a bit rusty, Tendulkar decided to quit mid way instead of trying to go to 2015 World Cup. That itself is a huge credit to Tendulkar that he had the realization to quit before he reaches 2015 World Cup. Nothing wrong in what Tendulkar did there, he gave himself chance, but moment he realized he wasn't good enough for ODI team, he quit. Thats a team player.

Dude he was never going to play the 2015 World Cup. Come on now. He was already playing for 20 years. There was no way he would have played 2015 even if India didn’t win the 2011 WC.

Cause he had his 100th ton coming up... Not supporting Sachin, but at least he had something to look forward to.

Why does Dhoni want to stay? What does he want to achieve by staying on? except find newer ways to lunge and choke.

I liked Dhoni upto a point.  He was one of the chief architect of making India a gun chasing unit. But with Tendulkar it was mostly fans that supported him through thick and thin during the later part of his career.  He had some level of PR machinary going for him. Mostly former Mumbai players. But With Dhoni it is a completely different level. His PR machinery is far more powerful. ICC, BCCI, Indian players, former players, fans, even players from other countries, retired players from other countries. His brand is far more powerful. Highly commercial. This is why someone like Dhoni has survived this long. If it were upto Gauti, Dhoni would have been long gone.

All Indian cricketers become greedy at the end of their careers and their decisions are dictated by their sponsors/franchise owners. They become a disease and cost their country some very important series/trophies. Dhoni is doing same exact thing. He should have been kicked out 3 years ago. Shameless people willing to sell their country for money. India is a strange country where players decide when they want to retire.

Player becomes greater than team, this is what happens.

Because he wanted a 100 centuries obviously.

He continued to play Tests for around 15 months after scoring his 100th 100. He wanted to ensure his Test runs record was beyond anyone’s reach plus the target of 15000 test runs, something Gavaskar had spoken about in late 90s (sounded impossible at that time) and kept reminding Sachin of it.

Nobody retires while being ranked the no. 1 Test batsman in the world (except for Bradman). He had just had his best year in Test Cricket statistically in 2010 (not to mention the ODI 200*) and started off 2011 with a bang with a hundred in the Cape Town test. Followed that up with a WC where he was the 2nd highest scorer. So he obviously felt that he was good enough to carry on for a year or two. Of course in hindsight, he should have retired after the 2011 WC but then again in hindsight Dhoni should have quit T20Is in 2008 and ODIs in late 2013 :dontknow:.

Dhoni and Sach are two different scenarios. Although Sachin should have retired long before he did, Jharkhandi has been flopping for YEARS now. Sachin helped win the WC.

However, I think Ailaa hung around too long. After the Australia tour of 2011-12, he should have hung up his boots at the same time Dravid & Laxman did. In that Aus tour he started well but  then went downhill very quick after the 2nd test. Even the modes of dismissals in the innings he played well should have told him he was losing his reflexes. He hurt his average and his legacy by sticking around for almost two more years!!

so Sachin sucked real bad for about 1.25 years before retirement. Dhongi has been sucking since 2014-15.

Which player has retired when he was doing great like sachin was in 2010-11?

Actually apart from Rohit no one currently is doing better than retiring Sachin. We have Dhawan unfit, Pandya Pant hack, daddu tuk tuk, Rahul ram bharose, Kohli rona dhhonaa

Why didn’t he retire after the WC? It’s kinda hypocritical of Tenda’s fans to be asking Dhoni to retire when their FAVOURITE didn’t retire at the right time even though he was a shadow of himself after the WC

He wanted to complete his 100th hundred so stuck to the team.but to be frank he was still batting lot better than dhoni at dhoni's age

Not sure if you're trying to troll or serious. Tendu was India's leading run scorer and second highest overall in 2011 WC. Ideally yes he should have retired because he wasnt going to play 2015 anyway but on form he definitely deserved a place. You could say he was very selfish in tests where he stunk it up post the SA series in 10-11 but in ODIs he was ok. Dhoni has been an absolute liability post 2015 bar one innings Vs England
