Man such a gutsy move, taken 7 decades, even BJP's harshest critics should see that this kind of decision making needs big balls. And just like that BJP has fulfilled one of its major pre-poll promises, SP Mukherjee sacrificed his life for this day to come to fruition, ABV wanted public to give BJP poorn bahumat in the house to make the move, and now with this huge mandate and meticulous planning in the leadup (starting from BJP-PDP break up, Gov rule, crackdown on separatists/terrorists/preachers, last two weeks buildup), they deliver us one of the most difficult political tasks one can imagine.

BJP has messed up badly on the economic front but we can still make amends there. But this JK decision was something GOI had to make at some point, no point prolonging the wait, I am confident no other ruling coalition could have made this happen. What a gift before Independence Day. If Kashmiris take this in the right spirit, they may see the dawn of a new glorious era starting from investments, real estate, employment, infrastructure, educational/medical institutes....if they don't well they will face the consequences of their follies.

Kashmiris and Kashmir is burning like hell and rest of India is celebrating. Yes, Kashmir is an "integral party of India", but not the Kashmiris. Congratulations to all Indians, and my heart goes out to Kashmiris, they have been suffering for 70 plus year, will suffer even more. Their identity will be lost soon.

This identity tied to a religion or regions is a thing of the past, if you want to live in the 21st century you have to be a global citizen or perish like the dodo!

AAP, BSP, INLD, AIADMK, BJD, YSRCP....well done.

Shame on others, especially JDU, all other NDA constituents supported the govt.

BJP did the right thing by remembering SP Mukherjee but BR Ambedkar shouldn't be forgotten. He was against special status/concessions to JK and refused to draft 370...greatest leader associated with Congress and a great son of Mother India.

Quote

Ambedkar had clearly told the Kashmiri leader, Sheikh Abdullah: "You wish India should protect your borders, she should build roads in your area, she should supply you food grains, and Kashmir should get equal status as India. But Government of India should have only limited powers and Indian people should have no rights in Kashmir. To give consent to this proposal, would be a treacherous thing against the interests of India and I, as the Law Minister of India, will never do it."

Kashmiris still have 100% full rights as citizens of India.  What they no longer have is any basis to sustain a delusion of 'separateness' from the rest of the Indian republic.

True. The ones who will be really hit hard are the likes of ex-militants & the middlemen who've made a fortune till now.

Congress committing suicide: Congress whip in Rajya Sabha resigns to protest party's stand on Article 370

The Rajya Sabha MP from Assam resigned to protest against Congress's stand on government's decision to revoke Article 370 and bifurcating the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two UTs.

Quote

The MP claimed that the Congress party was committing suicide by opposing the abrogation of Article 370. In a letter circulating online, Bhubaneswar Kalita said that the party leadership had asked him to issue a whip but he felt that the "whip was against the nation's sentiments". Thus, he said, he decided to resign from the party.

"The Congress leadership is trying to completely destroy the party. No one can stop the Congress party from destruction," Bhubaneswar Kalita said in the letter. Bhubaneswar Kalita was a member of Rajya Sabha from Assam.

Does your heart "go out" for the likes of Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar too?  Who have been kidnapped by Pakmil Mafia in spite of being elected members of parliament?

this has the potential to go very badly with rise of more terror but it may be  worth it.i just hope the BJP doesn't  half ass it like they have done in the past.

I think they have thought through this.. house arrest, separation of Ladakh from J&K, Constitutional route of using 370 to repel 370 was a master stroke. They have done it fairly early in the term so they will live or die by that decision

Ladakh and Shias of Kargil don't want anything do with the Sunni rebellion in the valley anyway.

Bigger than the 370 brouhaha, is the bifurcation.  In one move, Indian govt has whittled down the "Kashmir dispute" to a handful of districts.

I would have preferred if Ladakh UT had a legislature as well, but probably not enough population to justify?  whatever.

The likes of Mehbooba Mufti, who don't hesitate to speak up against Indian govt, never talk about getting back Aksai Chin from China or Gilgit Baltistan from Pak, do they?

Even if 10 years down the road, to "solve" the Kashmir problem, if we do something like soft borders, joint administration etc - this bifurcation ensures that greenbros can never poke their snotty nose into Ladakh, Kargil or Siachen.

Essentially, today's administrative changes lay the foundation of eventually converting LOC into border.  Which is the obvious solution that overwhelming majority of Indians and Pakistanis would agree to.  Kashmiris probably would want easy travel across that border, which is fine to grant, provided the terrorism and violence is off the table.

As the Bhakts on this forum are well aware, I have no love for Modi.  But credit has to be given where credit is due, this was a long overdue belling of the cat, that needed guts to accomplish.  This has been done.
