Dhoni is a  poor guy to compare with lol  I am thinking why Samson is not considered.

Pant has dominated samson in ipl

Samson doesnt help by being inconsistent in domestic

Samson doesnt keep regularly for his state side

Samson runs comes in top 3 where there is no position.

So nothing suggest that samson wud do better

Pant also scored most of his runs in top 3. He looks confused as a middle order batsman.  It is not just about the stats. His game plan against certain type of bowling is questionable. His should assume Raina's role.  Someone who doesn't waste time to get going.

Pant bats at 4-5 for his ipl side mostly....n has done well at those positions to.

Most young players have looked confused under this TM n virat.... They need sense of security.  Virat ipl side youngster has same issue. Pant needs most support n backing from team as he is replacing dhoni who is a huge sentiment in public as they are always ready to go after him at slightest of failure

you guys mentioned Pant and Rahul who are classic cases, they have enough chances to cement their places in the team but have done nothing but regress against early promise.the key is not big scores but to show consistency, you cant fail 6-7 matches and score a 50 and everything is peaches.

You can easily see they have stopped playing their natural, free flowing game because of the unnecessary pressure on them. Other good LOI teams are celebrating their hitters but we have put media, our management and everyone wanting youngsters to play tuk tuk in t20s

they are under pressure but nobody is defining themselves with consistency, you only cement your place in the team with consistent performances.

Our batting is a joke.  Dhawan could be dropped for Rahul as opener but they won't do it. All the batsmen beside top 3 have become like a support cast, playing carefully to keep their place in the side. The bowling is also weak with the likes of Krunal picked for their batting rather than attacking bowling skills.

India has to factor in mental aspect as well. Some guys are nervous.  I don't say include him. But i liked the confidence maturity level of Ryan Parag. Also if Dubey is not going to bowl, you would rather give chance to Samson a legit batsman? or Gill?

Dubey us not a direct competitor of gill or Samson.

When did Pant bat in top 3?

Rahul scored a fantastic 100 at no 4 vs Windies at the beginning of his T20 career. For a very long time after this he has been viewed purely as a backup opener/ top order bat and hence his opportunities have dried up with our big three performing well. This exteme rigidity with batting positions is also not helpful.

Comparatively speaking, selectors have reposed greater faith in Rahul than others like Rahane, Karthik, Pandey, Rayudu etc(in some cases justifiably). At times even Virat has sacrificed his position at 3 to accomodate him. Rahul's returns have been poor. And with each passing game this is becoming more glaringly obvious. It is very disappointing for his admirers like me.

Rahul after 29 games average 41, SR of 146. How is that bad? You won't get consistent runs until he is playing consistently. Rahul wouldn't Even have played if Kohli was playing.

True.   But what is more irritating is that ICF has too many KL fans who are more annoying than KL's performance itself.

You have a guy who averages 41 at an SF of 146, obviously people will back him.

Rahul has 2 T20 hundreds, 5 50s in just 26 innings and people are calling him a failure when he hasn't even been a regular in the XI. He is so insecure, he has stopped even playing his natural game. He is also trying to bat like Kohli.

Consistency in T20? Are you insane?

The average of 41 does not give you a clear picture. Thing is that he was averaging around 50 in 2017.  His average is quickly declining with every passing year.  Speaks a lot about his current form.

This is what happens when players are made to feel insecure, they get irregular games and as a result don't play their natural game. Even after averaging 50 at high SR, he was made to sit out for Dhawan.

Avg used to be 50+ and strike rate 150+ not too long ago.

He was getting opportunities regularly in T20s before the WC . He played all 3 T20s in Aus, all 3 against Wi at home, 2 against Aus at home(did ok in that series) and missed the NZ T20s because of the coffee fiasco.

He has missed only two T20s after the WC in the Windies to accomodate a returning Dhawan.

Look I want him to do well too like all of us but he must show signs of his brilliance every now and then. This has not been happening consistently enough. In his last 12 T20s he averages 25 and is striking at 125.
