Can't cry about the number we've been asked to bat at - Shreyas Iyer

S Iyer is ready to bat wherever his team requires him to.

If Kohli takes his number 3 spot, S Iyer may be pushed down to 5 to have KL Rahul at 4.

Excellent attitude, young player has to make himself undroppable by performing. He will get his chances and  I just hope he makes most out of those.

This is exactly my point, can't make excuses like that's the way he plays or he can play this way only etc. if someone has to hoick they have to hoick, if someone has to dig in and block they have to dig in block. period.

Showing the mirror to his captain fool who said yesterday that he will go back to batting at number 3.

Imagine Iyer’s plight. This captain fool shuffles him around at his whim. In his short career, in LOIs, he’s batted 7 innings at no. 3 and no. 4 each and 11 innings at no. 5. In last 10 innings, the sequence is number 4, 5, 6, 5, 4, 4, 4, 3, 5, 5. Some way to groom young players

gambhir gave up opening and dropped to #3 in later part of career, was pivotal in WC 11. Yuvi, Dhoni, Raina all dropped one spot to allow Kohli at 4. Now, Kohli/Dhawan/Rohit can't drop places to accomodate KL/Shreyas? It's all about team balance and giving chance to young players higher up order. We badly need one opener to be out & out aggressor - maybe try KL & Dhawan open, Rohit 3, Kohli 4?

Only shows how insecure and self centered these guys are. The experimentation is only for youngsters. Captain and his friends are firmly secure in their place.

Why can't Dhawan bat at 3/4 and Rahul open or Iyer given a  run of 10 matches at 3? TM knows that it will show any good player who bats in top 3 is capable of scoring runs. Rahul has scored 2 100s and 3 50s in 10 innings as an opener from the WC to now, 556 runs@51, SR of 81. SR can improve but he's shown he can bat as an opener if he gets a proper run.

It flows from captain, who calls all the shots in this set up.

Let me hazard a guess by saying If Rohit were LOI captain, we wld see more trust put in young players. In IPL, Rohit has moved himself down the order in interest of his team, and shown he can bat at 4/5 too with good SR -

Kohli has been far more reluctant and has stuck to top 3 batting slots, despite his team struggling more than MI with balance.

Would Rohit be open to batting at No. 4 in the Kohli-Shastri set up? Maybe not - because he knows how fickle-minded Kohli can be, and that a few failures at that slot cld mean even his position coming under threat! Likewise, we can grudge Rohit getting a chance in tests, but all professional players are built like that - in a strong, professional set-up, Rohit would have been told he's only seen as an LOI specialist, made captain of ODI and T20 teams, and a youngster like Easwaran/Gill given a chance to open alongside Mayank in tests.
