In the wake of the novel coronavirus, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday requested the international community to consider writing off loans to developing countries such as Pakistan to help them deal with the crisis.

In an exclusive interview to Associated Press, the premier expressed concern over the devastating impact the virus may have on economies of developing countries.

The premier said if a serious outbreak happens in the country, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s efforts to lift the economy out of collapse would begin “an unstoppable slide backwards”.

“Exports would fall off, unemployment would soar and an onerous national debt would become an impossible burden,” the premier added.

The prime minister maintained that Pakistan does not have the capability and resources to deal with the novel coronavirus.

He further directed lifting sanctions against Iran and lauded the country’s humanitarian imperative to contain the outbreak by pushing aside political rivalries.

PM Imran expressed disappointment over recent comments made by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani about Pakistan.

He said since the start of his tenure, he has worked hard with the US to help establish a peace deal in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan should be appreciated for furthering the peace process,” he added.

Referring to the riots and massacre of Muslims in New Delhi, the premier said Indian Prime Minister Modi’s government threatens to suppress millions of Muslims through the controversial anti-Muslim law.

The premier reiterated concern over the situation in the region and said it is the world’s worst nightmare that a racial party has taken over a nuclear-armed country with more than one billion people.

What is racial party ?

India obsession continues, FO kaali dal...

Atleast now this country will realise the karma of using the money they had on nuclear weapons against India than investing in their people and healthcare system.

just shut the borders with this beggar state and let them face the consequences of the virus pandemic on their population. I know this sounds harsh but as they say ‘ you reap what you sow’

that's not a nice thing to say.

the average pakistani has no interest in waging endless war and importing american weapons. we should sympathize with them, and offer help.

the pakistani army regime has to be diplomatically isolated, and removed. pakistan could do much better if it was a territory governed by the republic of india.

This is not the time for these things. He should have emphasized on strict border and access controls to curtail the virus threat. What they did at Taftan Border was damn awful.

Thankfully Sindh Government exposed their (federal government's) so called testing otherwise it would have been curtains. They are still hiding alot of cases in Punjab, they are *ing toying with us.

Yeah, its not a good look.  To be fair, Pak Gov doesn't have too many resources at its disposal, but still the Sindh govt is showing the way - at least competence and efficiency can be expected in a moment of crisis, not just 'media management'.  But then again, PTI has no real governance/administration experience.  Their top leaders are more adept at marketing, media, and changing parties.  Those skills don't translate into administration.

Exactly.

On top of that they don't even try bevause they have no stake in Pakistan.

President State Bank is an IMF Tool who has no clue over economic ground relaities of pakistan and bottlenecks. All these guys are happy in their "seats"

More than resources it needed proactive approach, they could have just carried the pilgrim batches to proper areas in Sindh/Balochistan rather than going through a formality 14 day period. Sindh Govt has kept them all at labour apartments in Sukkur.

Early "containment" is much better, planning and prevention is better than control. But unfortunately Mr. Khan cannot feel the "pain" of the people. He never bothered with unemployment left, right and center in last couple of years, why would he bother now?
