Your happiest moment as a cricket fan

My cricket revolution happened in 1983/

Which was just about right for me/

Between the start of the Maruti car/

And Nazia's first LP

^^ I'm pretty proud of that effort. Not only does it answer OP's question, it rhymes, is chronologically correct and references some iconic literature.

Just massive random props to anyone who guesses what verse the above references (hint: it's a poem).  @Mariyam could get it.

Leaving out the WCs for obvious reasons. Leaving out Sharjah 1998 & Kolkatta 2001 also because it has been widely appreciated.

In chronological order.

Sachin Tendulkar hitting 4s during the original 15 over fielding restrictions in the 90s.

1996 Bangalore win against Pakistan(Prasad telling off Sohail) and again against Australia & SA during Titan cup

1999 Kumble 10-fer after the godawful sennai apocalpyse.

2002 Series draw & Natwest trophy win

2003 Draw in Australia

2004 Pakistan series win (319 by Sehwag especially). Irfan pathan & Balaji regularly pitching in with the wickets.

2007 Zaheer in England

2008 cb series win and perth win.

2009 NZ SERIES win although a very weakened team.

2010 SA draw

And thereafter it stopped. It's been only PAIIIINNNNNNNN.

Not that much brother. But I will tell you this. If we win Border Gavaskar 2020 against a full strength Australian team in Australia, then it will definitely be among the top of this list. Just below the 10-fer and above 2003.

IMO, 10-fer is the highest.

Disclaimer: The list is subjected to many changes in the future.

I understand.
For me 2018 series win will always be above 2003 draw because in both series two main players were missing.(Warner,Smith in 2018 and Warne, mcgrath in 2003)

Perth 2008. Ishant bowling an Ambrose like spell to Ponting.

Winning in Perth at that time felt like beating Germany in football World Cup finals.

Absolutely, it was a very special moment. That spell was unbelievable! And beating the Aussies at Perth, considered our Waterloo, made it even more special.

Very easy this one.

2001 Miracle of Kolkata Series.

I was the only Indian in a pub in Australia. Must have been 100s of Aussies  in that pub there cheering for Australia and me cheering for India for every run and wicket.

Felt like a rock star lol. Towards the end when India won, a lot of guys and girls came up to me and said hello and congratulate me. You have to understand, when India got a wicket, there was almost a deafening silence, here I am cheering that wicket on. One person. No Fears lol.

Epic wins that series. Stopped Australia's winning streak and beat them too from 0-1 down.

Nice opportunity for me to go down in memory lane and relive nostalgic moments. So bear with me for long post.

My serious cricket watching period,  where I took matches personally and the results affect me emotionally,  was from 1996 to mid 2007. You could say it started and ended with both 50 over WCs. So, our t20 2007 victory ( I didnt take that tourney that seriously) and 2011 wc victory are not that high for me,  although I was happy for the team. But Sachin tribute and "carried the burden" speech at the end of the wc got me emotional though as i knew how heartbroken i was when Sachin's great efforts in 1996 was wasted.

Anyway, here is my  personal elations and jumping in joy moments of cricket in chronological order..

Bold face - All time fav

1. 1996 WC QF against Pak

2. 1996 Titan Cup final

<<entire 1997 was like a nightmare fore esp due to SL. Our only great victory i remember was the Toronto trophy but I couldnt watch it so didnt feel the joy>>

3. Sachin - Azhar partnership vs SA in SA

4. vs Zim in SA where we needed to chase 240 in 40 overs.

5. 1998 Kanitkar four in the Independence day finals

6. 1998 Sharjah - Sachin double feature

7. 1998 Colombo Singer cup finals

8. 1999 Lara chase against Aus in WI

9. 1999 WC Saurav innings vs SL

10. 1999 WC finals. Didnt want Pak to win at all

11. India v SA ODI series in 2000. May be now, it has some shades of darkness, but at that time the entire series was awesome to watch with great chases and close loses against an ATG team.

12. 2000 ICC Knockout wins against Aus and SA

13. 2001 epic Kolkata test and Chennai test.

14. India's ODI win against SA in SA in a tri series. First time Im seeing a Ind win against SA in their soil.

15. 2002 VB series whenever Aus lost against Nz and SA and didnt qualify for finals. Hated Aus that much at that time.

16. 2002 Natwest Finals

17. 2002 Headingly test win

<<Didnt have over the joy memories of 2003 wc. Even the win against Pak as at that time they werent good and the Enemy No 1 title held by Aussies. Also I felt India was world no 2 so I was happy when we won but not much elation. Had we won the finals it would have topped my fav list though>>

18. 2003 WI record test chase vs Aus

19. 2003 WI's hat trick ODI win against Aus

20. 2003 ODI series where SA came back from 0-2 to 3-2 against Pak

21. 2003 Adelaide test victory

22. 2004 India Pak ODI series in Pak

23. 2004 Champions trophy finals

24. 2006 434 chasing match

25. 2007 VB series finals against Eng. Aus were unstoppable  in group stages and asked for some challenge cockily. They got them served

26. 2007 Chappel Hadlee series where Aus was whitewashed.

After the 2007 WC I kinda lost interest in Cricket in general.  Just followed scores of other country matches and stopped taking India matches to heart. So personal moments stops here.

There were no Warne and McGrath, but still Australia never relied on big names to win games, that old team always played like world champions even with Brad Hogg being their only spinner.

Our Perth win inspired South Africa to win the test series there next year, otherwise they would have gone ahead with 20 test wins on a streak.

Hardest game ever probably, even after batting and bowling so well, at one point it looked like Ponting and Hussey would have chased down the target but Ishant bowled those massive inswingers for 9 overs with bounce and got Ponting out.

Mine was the Independence Cup final win against Pak in Dhaka, when Hrishikesh Kanitkar took us home in the last over. I think it was January 1998 and the first time ever when a team successfully chased down 300 in an ODI.

I was in the hospital that day just after undergoing surgery of my appendix removal and I distinctly remember almost jumping out of bed in joy even in that painful condition LOL.
