Dude all reports saying Lord Shardul will replace Umesh. Even Boria, and he is mostly right with these things, has reliable sources.

Lord Shardul sounds like a royality who in real life is a vampire like Count Dracula. I thought this was a day test?

Thats a bit strange. How can a designated vice captain be replaced by another mid-series and for what reason  Also Pujara is more established as a test player than Rohit. There needs to be some protocol established within the team by BCCI as Pujara is still playing. Or is he? :fear1: Otherwise it will be do as you please from the TM and star players

This is team management's way of signalling that they are "all in" on Rohit being a 3 format player and want him in there no matter what.  Because if you make Pujara VC, then Rohit would have to compete on even playing field with Mayank/Vihari/KL etc.

Selecting Shardul will be disappointing and retrograde.   As in the past, we will be selecting mediocre 'all round' type of players to cover all bases and will end up covering nothing.

We should stick to selecting specialists who will probably perform well in their field rather than jobbers who probably will suck at everything.

Shardul would be a Karn Sharma level waste of a pick.  Saini is the obvious choice, but Rahane might like the gamble on the 'unknown' x factor of the left armer Natarajan.  Which can also be a Karn Sharma type fail.

Shardul replacing Umesh is a terrible idea I agree.

I am also concerned about Rohit playing. Mayank did well last time in scg and mcg. He should be given a longer rope.

Are they dropping vihari or Mayank for Rohit? I disagree with both. Both deserve a full series to judge them.

Basically, apart from Bumrah, Shami, Ishant and to a lesser extent, Umesh and Siraj, we dont have any bowler who is test class in the entire country?

Saini is in the squad.

Bhuvi is out injured. Then there is Varun Aaron (has bowled decently in FC matches, still has the pace). Other pacers (not including Shardul Thakur, Sid Kaul, Dhawal Kulkarni and Unadkat) who have played for India A and in Duleep Trophy include Sandeep Warrier, Ankit Rajpoot, Avesh Khan, Aniket Chaudhary etc. Out of them, IMO Warrier and Avesh are the better FC bowlers

Another case of mixing formats.

if Natarajan is selected and has a poor outing, it’s going to hamper his confidence and you risk the chance that you destroy Nattu the LOI and T20 cricketer.

I want to know who is the drug dealer for this Indian team think tank

Kuldeep Sen is the best test prospect among Indian players. Then Akashdeep. Avesh has become a fat trundler. Shivam Mavi is good too.

Hell according to this article even Natarajan's head coach is lukewarm on the Test idea.

“See, I am very happy for him and want him to play Tests and wishing him success. But I am not saying he is going to be immediately successful. He has to learn and I am sure he is a quick learner. We have to see if he is ready for Test cricket. It will depend on how he grabs the opportunity (if it comes),” Vasu said.

So, what are the aspects Natarajan needs to learn? “He needs to swing the ball. He needs to bowl a more consistent line. He also needs to cut the ball (off the seam). Test cricket is not easy. Not many of these slower balls and yorkers are going to be effective as far as Test cricket is concerned. And I don’t think that at his pace (around 130kph), bouncers could be a (wicket-taking) option. I think (if he plays), he needs to bowl up, work on his swing, work on his angles. That would be a better option for him,” the Tamil Nadu coach observed.

So what are the aspects Natarajan needs to learn (for test bowling)?  Pretty much everything it seems.

I named the pacers who have played for India A and in Duleep Trophy in last 2-3 years. Kuldeep and Akashdeep had their break through seasons only in 2019-20. This season would perhaps have seen them rise further through the ranks. Sadly no FC cricket yet and they do not play IPL.

Mavi did play for the emerging team a couple of years back but has had too many injuries. Will need a full season of FC cricket

I think team BCCI has achieved its high point of the tour. I don't see why things will be better or equal now in the next 2 tests with so many changes and politics going on behind the scenes.

Rohit, honestly, ruins the balance of the team.

I am no Rohit fan but the keeping in mind  the way Mayank has played, Rohit won't do worse.

Also SCG is usually a flattie, so great chance for Sharma to finally score a ton away from home.

Before Siraj got a break in test he was also a waste bowler based on his ipl and some of international T20 which he played. How do u know Saini is not international class when his strongest suite is test cricket, go check his domestic performance. After one match you annointed Siraj as test class believe me before his test debut no body would have though he ll perform this well. So pleas don't pass your judgement saying none othe bowlers are test class let them get chance especially Saini.

Tbh he is no  way near the likes of Prasidh Mavi & Warrier.  A tall guy like Prasidh with so much promise deserved to be on the plane to Aus.  Even Kohli once said that this guy is special.  But selectors are blind to see all that.

I followed siraj's career back in 2018 and he ripping through strong A teams of other sides. Have been  calling him test class since then. Not based on the last match alone.  Saini averages 28.4 in domestic. Not sure what performances he has to speak about.
