He is learning fast.

 

As I thought, give him a full series in India as a keeper and he will come out a much better keeper.

If he had not been dropped for the specialist keeper Saha back in Oct 2019, by now he would have improved by leaps and bounds.

 

These jokers did their best to destroy him, he grabbed the very first opportunity that came to him and since then has answered Kohli-Shastri through his performances

Must be driving Ashwin crazy with all these drops. He has caught 1-2 off Ash since MCG and dropped 6-7....worse than Akmal-Kaneria. Must improve. Anyway he must be keeping to Ash (+ Axar, Mishraji) in DC nets....why is he so clumsy when Ashwin is bowling?

Saha is amazing glove work

 

But no doubts Pant glove work in last 5 months has gone from poor to ok.  Put that with his batting he excelelnt package.  Hope his glove work can go from ok to good in next 18 months.  Glove work will never be good as saha though

Pant has improved a lot no doubt, especially love his work against quicks. Just hope that more he plays at home the better he gets against spin. His batting is so good that he doesn't need to be a Saha or Healy behind the stumps. If he can become ulta of Dhoni, excellent against pace and safe/unspectacular against spin will do us a lot of good.

Pant will improve..  Even Foakes missed a couple of stumpings & a catch & he is supposed to be best.  He is a package & we know how good he is against pace & he has kept well on a tough pitch.

Even Saha or Dhoni would have found that catch very difficult, it went off to his pads directly. Foakes missed exactly same kind of catch

I support DC boy Pant, just want him to keep learning and improving.

Pant took 2 great catches and dropped a very difficult one.

 

Foakes missed an easy stumping and a difficult catch and executed 2 stumpings.

 

But Foakes is a genius and Pant is a nothing keeper.

Actually Foaks has been phenomenal considering that this is the first time he is keeping in a pitch like this that too away from home. Infact his keeping has been at Saha level while also producing a gritty knock in first innings. Pant is improving as a keeper but purely on keeping he is indeed distinctly behind Foakes at this point.

He has indeed..  Those chances were tough as well & the Broad's chance was impossible but that doesn't mean that Pant was not as good.  I'll say Pant has kept better in this game.  Foakes was great too..  But those two stunners clinch it for Pant.  Though there is 2nd inns left still

Here the captain himself, the coach, selectors and ex players never let any opportunity go put down young players in public to further their own agendas. Something which happened in case of Pant. Kohli, Shastri, MSK and few ex players criticized and amplified every small mistake that Pant did and added fuel to fire which resulted in some fans mocking Pant with Dhoni chants in the stadium. Pant came back stronger under such a stifling environment because he is mentally strong but other talented youngsters might not make it. This is where the role of coach and captain becomes so important in shielding them for any negativity and backing them to the hilt. Something which Ganguly was great at. Wish someone like Ashwin was the captain instead of Kohli in tests and Rohit in LOI's. Both are very supportive of youngsters.

But Ashwin still is unable to understand why people start nitpicking those who have reached a stage.

“They play for the country and at times, it feels you know that we are searching as to what’s wrong with them. Rishabh Pant was always going to be a good cricketer and was always going to improve.

 

“Only if we back them in such a way that we want them to improve, they will improve faster,” Ashwin said.

Our cricketing fraternity are afraid of talking up Bumrah and Ashwin, forget about newbies.

 

And they are afraid of calling even our 140 k+ pacers as fast whereas Aussies often try to pass off medium pacers as quicks.

 

When will our cricket community learn to appreciate and promote our top players and top prospects !!
