Without the IPL, the BCCI would not be as rich and influential a board as it is today. $ by sale of media rights have shot through the roof, because of the IPL.

Anything that makes the BCCI more powerful is *good* for Indian cricket.

 

Think of it this way, the advent of the IPL has blocked the calendar for ALL major series across the world. No other board would like to schedule a series then. And if they do, a fair few players opt out and prefer playing the IPL.

how do fans benefit by BCCI riches? i care about Indias performance and IPL is negatively affecting the workload of Indian players.

All were fit when they landed in Australia. Bowling 25 overs in test cricket is most likely going to hurt you than playing T20.

Shami wasn't held back. He had suffered knee injury and underwent surgery.

Fans benefit? That's a wrong way to look at the situation.

You/We are the consumers. BCCI benefits because of us!!!

 

We have to be far more dispassionate about all this. Think of BCCI as a conglomerate with multiple business interests in various verticals. They diversified into the IPL when they found the need to. If one were to make a pie chart of BCCI earnings, a large share would be from IPL based earnings. Its their cash cow. Its what they will want to protect at all costs. 

 

Why would you not want the BCCI to have the clout that all the excess revenue brings? To solve the problem that you state, they should hire better fitness coaches, spend more of the conditioning, diet and fitness regime of the players etc.

Not many fans($$$) and hence  administrators see test cricket above every other format. Let's accept that rather than complain every year. 

 

In my opinion there should be some test specialists who are reasonably compensated and do their job well, now that might be too much work when it comes to administration. It's just easier to throw all players in all formats. If these admins were running homes, they would hang utensils to dry on the line and cook food in the washing machine.

your point is not wrong in the main but indian cricket will always make money  because of the cricket crazy population we have making it also by far the biggest market. we earnt a lot of money even before the ipl became a thing as a reaction to icl. the op isn't true as i feel bcci takes test cricket more seriously than it is given credit for. evidence is the number of 4 and 5 test series they are prepared to organise.

The simple thing is that ipl shouldn't be a two months long affair bcoz its causing harm to our players fitness and technique. 
 

Are you serious, who will pay their bills. Who will feed their families. I mean the fringe players who cannot make it to national team.

They are not playing IPL to make you happy, they are playing to make their living.

No it is not affecting the workload, IPL is normally being played when there is no cricket anywhere in the world. This year you should be happy that there is cricket. There are very few players who play all formats. Their workload is being managed properly .

 

If there was no IPL there would be no 4 test series. There will no be more Pujaras. Thats how fans benefit.

This time ... due to the rescheduling issues, they should have just played the test series and given up the ODI and T20I series.

 

This would have allowed a 40 day+ break.

Injuries are part of the game, they are playing a team with great fast bowlers who are hurt by their series defeat on last tour. Blaming it on IPL is ridiculous. People need to appericate how much players are going thru by staying in the bubble for six months. Guy like Siraj could not even go to his father's funeral.What more can we ask from these players.

IIRC he rested during the IPL, delayed his surgery until after WC - and that's why BCCI paid him his IPL salary.

Yes. The players could not practice for 6 months and became unfit. 

 

That is one issue.

 

2 intense and long back to back tournament / series is another issue.

 

Long periods of inactivity followed by long periods of intense activity can't be good. 

 

Since the lockdown was something that could not be controlled, just a 4 match test series after a 25 day break after the IPL, would have been ideal.

Any player who develops niggles during such a long IPL season, and doesnt report it, 2 weeks is not enough for the body to heal. You need a longer time to heal both mentally and physically.
