Yes, he is very much a specialist keeper and not a part timer like KLR, whom the doofus TM didn't have an issue with at all.

To be fair KLR was never in reckoning for the keeper spot in test matches.

So just because he is a good batsman he can not be a specialist WK according to some analysts.

Be a complete mug with the bat and that will make you a great WK automatically.

Pant needs to be played in all the 4 test matches as keeper.

 

And tell this to him in advance so that he feels secure. 

 

By the end of this series, Pant will be a good keeper to spin bowling.

 

Actual match practice to quality spinners is what he needs to become a complete keeper.

 

Invest in him in this series ... and reap the benefits of a top quality batsman-keeper for the next 12 years.

So Saha' 'specialist wicket keeper' jibe was a well thought out statement. Now it has become mainstream, with Pant being painted as someone who is not good enough to keep in India.

 

None of these coaches, giving media interviews everyday, have given one statement supporting Pant or saying he's now claimed the wk-batsman position in all conditions. So much for their support to him. They seem ready to throw him under the bus at the first available opportunity.

On a more general note, will the "test championship" cause teams be less risk-averse?  Less willing to let younger players fail, grow and develop because there are points at stake in every match?   And more likely to go with "experience"?

and have patience to persist with him if he drops few. Our slip fielders frequently drop sitters and they are not questioned at all.
