Unpopular opinion... Player of the Match should be Rohit Sharma

Agree. Over the course of 4 days Ashwin was the best cricketer on display but impact-wise hard to top Rohit's efforts on day 1 (like Viru's savage 4th innings 80 at the same venue in 2008). Maybe they should do a swap, Ash giving him this MOTM and in return Rohit giving his MOTS from WI home series, 2013 :p:. Win-win for all, Ashwin fully deserved that MOTS and I am sure Rohit too will rate this 160 over his total runs in debut series.....apt reward will be a MOTM here.

Rohit ensured that India got a big total and then Ashwin made sure that it remained out of reach. Ideally both should share. But I am not too bothered about this. Typically, all things being equal, batting contributions are more highly valued. Good to see a bowler get his due. Although, if Ashwin  didn’t score that 100- Rohit’s 161 would have edged out Ashwin’s 8 wickets for MOM

Ashwin was too much about himself in the PC. I don't remember him mentioning Rohit, or Pant Or Akshar. He was all naa, naanda  Hero

In PC they answer questions posed to them, same with Axar yesterday, Rohit after day 1, majority questions about individual performance. But from whatever little I saw from yesterday's PC Ashwin praised Pant (and other youngsters without naming them) a lot, how they aren't given the support by our ecosystem like in Australia (citing Cameron Green as an example who was backed so much by Aus cricket community in the recent series), did you see that part?

So yeah the Pant part in your post is definitely inaccurate. He spoke glowingly about him for close to two minutes.

In the end, it was an individual award.  Not meaningless, but one with minimal meaning.  The Win is all that matters!!  Honestly I'd be totally okay with doing away with these awards.  Score more runs, take more wickets, celebrate together with your team.

50 years from now people won't be discussing this win but they'll be discussing MOTM stats for Indian players and Rohit was unfairly robbed

Ashwin definitely deserves it.

Pitch was more difficult to bat in 4th innings and he took an 8 fer.

An 8 fer itself is equal to those 160 runs now you add in that 100 and Ashwin's side is just too heavy.

Not too heavy without Rohit's 160 on that right angle turn India would have skittled under 180-200,it was relatively easier for others to post 320+ which set the tone,i agree Ashwin's performance trumped Rohit's but by not much

If Ashwin contributed 52% Rohit did 48%

My 2 cents:

I thought Rohit deserved it more. By lunch on 1st day we were 106/3 in 26 overs with Rohit alone scoring 80(78). Though losin 3 wickets is a bummer but he made it sure that India had a slight advantage by scoring quickly. Runs on the board are runs on the board. By scoring freely rahane had more time to settle and by the time he got out we had almost made 250.

If he had got out cheaply it would have been 40 or 50 for 4 with only Rahane and the other bowlers not sure if we would have made even 200 then. It would have been an open game which would have even allowed the english batsmen to take risks and meet our 1st innings score.

Scoring 160 at 70 S/R is invaluable on this pitch.

Axar deserved this i guess even though rohit scored more than whole team in this match should have been last given in last match. If he scores big in next match and ashwin does well then would be interesting to watch who gets MOS.

Axar, Ashwin and Rohit all got the same amount as prizes anyway. But sure Rohit deserved it this match and could make the case for the previous match too. He wouldn't mind Axar getting it either.

Kinda disappointed with his slow batting on the morning. That's not his style. A free flowing bat like him should just do what he always does. Nevertheless a hard fought 49, deserved a 50.
