Unpopular opinion... Player of the Match should be Rohit Sharma

No doubt Ashwin bosses this match in both batting and bowling. Not discounting his immense contribution.

 

But don’t you think Rohit’s 161 runs helped India to build a huge lead on a difficult  wicket? 

Maybe Ashwin being the local lad got the preferential treatment.

yeah in the context of the match that 161 is huge. But 100+5for is a rare occurrence I don't mind ashwin getting it either

 

in any case this is a great problem to have, to have a choice between two amazing performances

Completely agreed. He took the game away in the first session itself and in the 2nd session made sure India reaches a score out of England's reach. 

I thought an all time great innings like that (very similar to Veeru's knock at Galle) deserved man of the match.

I agree . Batters in bowler friendly pitch and vice versa. I think though ashwin 100 sealed the deal as it was equally good as Rohit 160

Yep, Rohit got 50% of the team's runs and what put us in the driving seat of the match when we could've easily flopped around 200

Rohit's innings did put england out of this game. What ashwin did with bat was good for him and india but didn't have much impact towards the game. England gave up match after their first innings with bat. But again what ashwin did in this match with both bat & ball is exceptional so he deserves this as well.

No.Ashwin is right candidate. A 5 for in the first innings is equivalent of Rohit's effort. So his century and second innings exploit pips Rohit.

While I agree Rohit did well. Ashwin's 5fer was the reason was the reason why 329 looked huge score.Plus he scored 100 when team was 6 wickets down in second innings. So Ashwin was the right choice.

The match was pretty much settled by the time we finished batting in the first dig. Hitman kept batting like a dream even as the pitch was expoding in puffs of dust. The English realized they 

have none to match that kind of batting on this pitch and just gave up in their first innings itself.

I agree, I think it could have gone either way if not for his knock ..but cant ignore a 100 and 5 wickets in a low scoring match . so its not such a bad call

I thought so too, without 161 on day1, we would be not in such commanding position. Eng had no clue to bat here , except for late hitting by MAli, they could not match his score in both innings

Ashwin could've got a duck in the second innings and we would have still easily won and he could've got only 2 or 3 wickets in the first innings and we would have won as well.

I definitely think Rohit should have got the MOTM award ,his innings basically took the game away from England single handedly in just 2 sessions .
