Gill is big problem at top of the order unless he starts treating IPL as a T20 game rather than as ODI.

His strike rate (117) was like Rahane or probably even worse . KKR tried hitter in Banton but he failed in conditions very different to him.

Too add to opening issues of Gill, Tripathi joined Gill by playing at below par strike rate of 127.

I am surprised with Baz in the camp how is he allowing such mediocre approach by top order batsmen in power plays.

Pace bowling is a worry. Only 36 wickets were taken by pace attack comprising of Cummins, Prasidh, Mavi, Fergusson , Nagarkoti and Warrier. Pacers need to drastically improve their wicket taking performance this time.

Hope to see Venkat Iyer opening alongside Gill. Morgan & Baz should back this young duo this year to deliver. There is enough batting depth to make amends in case of failures.

Also Vaibhav Arora looks good, should definitely get a chance.

Most importantly I am looking forward to Kuldeep getting back in the reckoning. I have my doubts about Varun's success this year, batsmen will come out prepared.

Lockie should play ahead of Cummins. He is too good a bowler to sit out.

problem with both is both are good are weak in one phase

Lockie not great with new ball

Cummins with death overs

Russel is good at death and cummins can bat a bit so that tilt in favour of cummins

Wow. KKR is getting progressively worse. No one seems to have hunger for victory. Everyone moves mechanically in the ground. No intent in batting as well. They need to drop has beens like Narine / Sakhib and play other foreigners in the squad. Russel is eternally unfit. If they are not going to drop him, at least use him in powerplay where ball is coming to bat nicely even in slow pitches. Gill better improve his batting in powerplay. Or could come middle order and open with Tripathi.

From hindsight, KKR seemed to do well under DK captaincy than under Morgan captaincy. Even last season from first 7 games they were 4-3 under DK. Had a good 2018 season finished 3rd. 2019 also would have been great, if not for the internal rifts that halted them for 6 games on the trot.
