Current form of Indian batsmen

Pujara

Averages 28 in 18 matches

Averages 36 in 36 matches

Mediocre/below par for #3 in large sample size.

Kohli

Averages 29 in 11 matches.

Averages 43 in 22 matches

Poor recent form, average for few years.

Rahane

Averages 29 in 12 matches

Averages 33 in last 35 matches.

Mediocre in large sample size.

Those are averages expected from all-rounders and wicket keepers, not from core middle order.

All three not good enough.

Pujara obviously has to be dropped.

Kohli has to be dropped like Ganguly was - from captaincy and from the team to keep any toxicity away. Keep Rahane, that too for a 6-8 month period as the captain purely because he led a young team to a series win in Aus, our biggest test achievement till date.

Pick Shaw/Rahul/Mayank/Iyer/SKY anyone else, let the team be rolled over for scores of under 100 , that's okay. They will learn and improve but we have to move on from this bunch now.

BTW Kohli's numbers are boosted by a 254* vs a mediocre SA team (even Mayank Agarwal hit 2 200s vs them) and a 100 vs BD.

Kohli purely on form doesn't deserve to be part of sides across formats

Have been saying this he is not out of form,he is regressing due to slow reflex there is no shame admitting that ,happens to best of atheletes ,to far more skilled batsmen than him

Stop with this delusion that he will ever return to pre 2019 era form

But a stubborn, shameless , insecure individual like him will never loosen his grip from this Indian team so easily

He has hidden himself in the crowd of Pujaras and Rahanes

No governing body allows a looser like him to lead a National side for this long, that too with poorest of batting ability for so long, alas people in power are actually powerless ,cowards can't call him out

You know you are in deep **** when Rohit is your best Test batsman.

His form has been dire post the 2018-19 Australian tour. He sort of redeemed himself with his 50s at Sydney and Gabba but overall output has been shocking.

Pujara overseas have always been avg only...only one giant Aussie tour and i think SA in 2013. His record in 3rd -4th inning was shambolic till this Aussie tour which also wudnt have made much diff since it was so bad. His 1st overseas cycle was as bad as any

In SENA since 2018:

Primary team India
Opposition team Australia  or England  or New Zealand  or South Africa
Home or away away (home of opposition)
Start of match date between 1 Jan 2018 and 24 Jun 2021
Qualifications runs scored between 500 and 50000
Ordered by batting average (descending)

Overall figures
Player Span Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s
V Kohli 2018-2020 15 29 0 1277 153 44.03 2467 51.76 4 6 2 148 2
RR Pant 2018-2021 12 22 2 846 159* 42.30 1239 68.28 2 2 1 88 16
CA Pujara 2018-2021 17 33 1 1270 193 39.68 3605 35.22 4 7 4 136 2
AM Rahane 2018-2021 16 31 1 890 112 29.66 2042 43.58 1 4 2 87 6

Other batsmen have mostly played in India or such favorable conditions. The above have played in a variety of conditions impacting their averages. Of the above, only Pujara bats in the top order to avg 40 in SENA, which is good considering today's opening bowling attacks in such conditions

PS batting in the top order in SENA, Pujara has 11 50+ scores in 33 innings ... In the MO,  Kohli 10 in 29, and Rahane only 5 in 31

He made up for that by averaging 60+ at home though and being the highest impact batsman in the team overall. Right now he is struggling home and away which is a big problem.

my biggest worry wud be his reflexes , the day it declines or it may be declining also. Anyways his fitness was never great to begin with

I wonder if anyone had done a proper (non-Statsguru) analysis of his batting post the Australian tour in 2018-19. Is it a case of any technical flaw(s) or opponents have simply blocked off his already limited scoring areas? Against off-spin for instance the mid-on to midwicket region is now heavily protected for Pujara.

Technically i dnt think he was great ever, he just didnt play away from body . His technique comparison with dravid has been way overrated.

Teams will come with a plan, blocking runs from mid on to mid wkt is something even aussies did to dravid in 2004 home series. But those plan have made it worse for him when it was always avg.

Aus is best place to bat in SENA, if you see in between he failed in NZ n WI.

Also i feel he is now looking to pull , hook more which he cut down for the longest part of his career, something that can be exploited in coming types. On england tour, if i was in their camp ill tell ben stokes to do this job .

Since 2020, the records are even poorer. averages of 24, 26 and 28 for rat, chepu and rahane. not far behind ashwin who has an avg of 21-22.
