The US swimmers and track folks are consistently among the best in the world. They don't get one hundredth the recognition or money as a random basketball, football or baseball player in their country. Doesn't prevent them from doing well.

I would be happy if we can perform consistently as Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan/Iran to begin with. They have their pet events in Boxing and Judo/Taekwondo. Our shooters should have represented us well this time. Hopefully we can put up a better show next time in Paris.

What a start to the day. I was driving on my way to work when the match started. Turned on the radio commentary and listened the entire match... Was hoping that she wins in the end but you never know about the scoring pattern.. So happy  especially after the K Pandya zalalat.

because I don’t see cricket having an accountability any more. We invest too much into it but don’t get the results. I was dejected after 2003 wc loss but still proud of the team, can’t say the same about 2017 CT or 2019 WC.

 

2014 and 2016 can say we had a bad day and better team won but it’s only going down Hill and about time people get some wake up call. Having said that we will still continue watching, I tried to watch as much as possible of  today’s ridiculous T20 match vs Srilanka  FFS.

@bharathh these guys get nothing compared to forget a  guy like Shastri but even fielding coach Sridhar. They trained an Olympic medalist and tomorrow if they  get fired no one will even notice. I am not saying kill cricket, I am saying light a fire on these cricketers behinds and make them up their game. We shouldn’t be having the attitude of guys like Shaw, Pandya bros, Samson etc that think they are all set and not up their game

How does putting the cricketers down help in any way? We need more ppl getting into sports as a career option. Much like the African countries - where running is seen as a way out of poverty.

 

Winning or losing is a part of sport. The BCCI has revolutionized the game. Cricketers can bank on the game as a profession now - even a guy playing Ranji doesn't have to work 2 jobs to pursue cricket. That should be what we should be proud of. Winning tournaments cannot be the only barometer of success. 

 

As I said - the vast majority of American and European champions only lead comfortable lives as sportsmen. Most ppl woudn't in their countries would recall their names otherwise. However, they have great sports systems because people can choose to pursue sport as a career and lead a good comfortable life. That is what we should be aiming for. Results will come at some point if this system is set up successfully. As Rancho says in 3 Idiots- pursue excellence - not success. Success will come running after you at some point.

I wll again rant about GOI should hugely cut BCCI's finances & immediately stops any cricket stadium or infra being built.  For cricket team there should be accountability coz if they don't win ICC tourneys there is no point in paying them gazillions.

I am sure Sundar Pichai or Narayan Murthy's teachers never became as rich as Deepak Chopra - life coach for many famous ppl. Life is like that. Some ppl are luckier than others. Think about Gopichand. He started the Badminton revolution in India. He is not as well recognized or renumerated as Shastri either. That's life.

 

Then again money and fame are not the be all for everyone. These coaches and support staff will forever bask at the thought that they were able to coach/work with an Olympic champion.
