Shardul is fit and available for selection if India decide to go with him. Rahane confirmed this in the interview yesterday.

Headingley is always the toughest pitch to bat on along with Manchester. Our middle order needs to show up considering we are carrying a big tail after Jaddu. I'm hoping against hope that Shardul plays instead on Ishant. Two spinners is not the way to go but we did win in 2002 with kumble and harbahjan. But we had the batsmen in Dravid to see out the first day and Sachin and Ganguly to add the misery in day 2.

England is taking it seriously to strenthen their batting. We should learn from the hosts and not sit on the winning combination plays strategy. Proactive captains win and Kohli is not one. Even if bewda suggests it, rat is going to veto it. This test will go a big way in determining the series winner. If we win and go 2-0 up, series is ours mostly as we can get a draw somewhere. If we lose, this might be a repeat of 2014.

I feel the decision will be made in the morning. Ishant for either Shardul or Ashwin. This will be the only change IMO.

 

India need an extra player capable of batting especially if they keep Pujara and Rahane in the team.

 

The more I think of it, the more I think Pujara and Rahane will be given a "final" chance here. The worst thing that could happen is if Pujara scores and Rahane fails, as I feel they will persist on giving Rahane another chance. I think its easier to justify Pujara's dropping than Rahane given his performance in Australia as captain and scoring a century on that tour.

I don't think they will drop Rat or Rahane for a while, and Chepu has gotten an extended run lately.

If Ashwin has to play, then Jadeja can be dropped and shardul has to be added. We have to then hope ashwin+shardul can provide the runs. 

 

Let the pitch dictate the squad. I miss Ashwin's bowling, but I don't want him to be made a scapegoat by picking him for a seamer and putting immense pressure to deliver on a seam friendly pitch. 

 

I still want Shardul for Ishant though.
