rangeelaraja Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 (edited) I know the 96 WC is somewhat a huge favorite because of the Prasad-Sohail incident, Jadeja taking Waqar to Dhoni ghat, etc etc...for me personally was a little young to understand the intensity of that match...it took a couple of years for me to realize how big of a match that was. 1) 1999 WC for me is right at the top because it happened in the middle of Kargil, Pak was one of the favorites and the UK crowd in the match had many Mirpuri sub humans. 2) 2003 WC - Sehwag Sachin start. Nuff said. 3) 2011 WC - Sehwag and the Umar Gul over at the start, Munnabhai sending Razzaq's stumps for a long walk. The rest of them ..were just ok. Lot of hype, but we crushed them cornered donkeys easy. Edited September 20, 2021 by rangeelaraja Under_Score 1
Jay Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 For me it's got to be the 1999 one for sure. Chasing 250 plus was a tough one. Adamant 1

rangeelaraja Posted September 20, 2021 Author Posted September 20, 2021 99 WC we were underdogs. Plus we were bang in the middle of Kargil. I remember Akram underestimated us and said they are treating it as a practice match. Boy did they get their backsides handed to them like old tradition in the “practice match” Has to be #1 Under_Score 1
singhprakash72 Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 1.1999 (more for sentimental reason....also probably strongest Pak team) 2.1996 ( Jadeja treating Waqar as club bowler) 3. 2003 (Sachin giving pasting of lifetime to Pak bowling legends)
Bigg Brother Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 2011 was the best. The hype was unmatched, SF in India. Still gives me goosebumps remembering that day. 2015 was also hyped up as pundits were predicting India's first WC loss against Pakistan as India was going through bad patch in ODIs for last 1.5, yrs at that point.
Texan Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 1. 1996 - set the tone for future encounters. 2. 2011 3. 2003 4. 1999 5. 1992 6. 2015 7. 2019
mishra Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 1996-1992 and then forgot the kargil pain by 2003 but after Mumbai attacks, I never actually wanted India to play Pakistan. It became just a encounter I don’t want to loose but I don’t want to watch a India Pakistan game.
sensible-indian Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 1996 I missed out. The ones I watched: 2003 2011 1999 2015 2019 ---- Overall, 1996 has to be RIGHT up there. Jimmy Cliff 1

Ironically india won all its matches in 2015 wc except semis. In 2011 india lost one match and tied one. In 2019 india lost 2 matches. my personal favourite is and will always be the first one 1992. Miandad More incident actually made the rivalry into folklore. Remember it was the first time india faced pak in wc that too after 4 world cups.. also the telecast of that b&h world cup was phenomenal.. opened our eyes in terms of what broadcasting should be like.. the camera angles the colored clothes..it ushered a new era.. oh also the sunscream on the face of the players like dean jones and our own manoj Prabhakar.. the retro jerseys.. and to top it all Richie Benaud and Bill Lawrys commentory.. it was a ripper.. However, if you look at the record, majority of their wins were in u.a.e during that period. Although they kicked our butts in Australia too.
Number Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 96 because they were genuine favourites and it was a knock out.
cricketpitch Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 2015 was an amazing world cup for India and so was 2003 WC. India came into both these tournaments with least of expectations. Before the 2015 WC, India played a tri-nation tournament in Australia and were beaten badly by even a not so strong England (Pre-revival). So the game against Pakistan was a brilliant win even though the Pakistan weren't a great team. In 2003 we were absolutely hammered by NZ earlier that year and once again came into the WC with no takers. Lost horribly against Australia at the start and had a very scratchy win against Holland but how we turned around the tournament was brilliant. Even though Pakistan were a stronger side in 2003, they were a waning side. They did not even qualify past the group stage. Sachin-Sehwag start was epic though. My ranking though is the following: 1992 - India were having a horrible tournament and this win gave us a whiff. Pakistan were a very good side compared to a very ordinary Indian team. 1999 - India scraped to the super six but were once again a team which was underperforming. Pakistan were very strong then and eventually played the finals 1996 - Both teams were favorites as the tournament was in the subcontinent. Pakistan were a stronger side so this win was especially satisfying as we knocked them out and ended their dream of playing the finals at home. 2011 - India were the stronger side and were playing a Pakistan team who shocked themselves by reaching the Semi-Final. 2015 - India were struggling in the lead up to the tournament but absolutely hammered a poor Pakistan team. The only thing Pakistan had was loud mouthed bowlers. 2003 - Even though Sachin-Sehwag partnership was epic, Pakistan side weren't the strongest in the tournament and their bowling despite the legends had lost it's sheen. 2019 - No contest here. India were a far superior side and anything less than a hammering would have been a shock. So place this at the bottom. saik 1
jf1gp_1 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 My favorite was the first t20 which ended with a bowl-out. It was a young team, the whole concept was fresh, it was just fun.
Lone Wolf Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 2011 WC Semi.. Hype was unreal & as a kid i would never feel so nervous about a cricket match ever again. Nothing matches that tension & drama. Even WC win in Mumbai didn't felt as good as that win.
Jimmy Cliff Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 1996 was a Blockbuster game like no other. The only thing that is comparable is the 2007 T20 Final.
