deathmonger
So I was checking his stats in recent matches and they are surprisingly decent, even good I would say. SL 2021 series - 5.47 economy Eng 2021 series - 6.38 economy Even in the recent IPL he had a 7.97 economy. Mind you, IPL is a higher quality of cricket than most international cricket. If you finish his new ball overs with Shami and Bumrah at the death, think can do very well. Link to comment

New guy
Ok, putting my biases aside, let me try to answer this. Before we begin - there is definitely a section of fans who are biased just based on speed guns and 100% judge a bowler only based on speed gun readings. This is stupid IMO, blind speed gun worship is similar to afridi fans only looking at 6s and strike rate in batting when batting is so much more. A safe, consistent, frugal wicket taking bowler is a must in all formats to complement the more agressive bowlers in the team (bhuvi is none of that based on current form and perhaps never was in LOIs) Having said that, Bhuvi represents something we have all seen before. Dibbly, dolly bowlers running up and putting it there, playing it safe while the opposition had bowlers who terrorized us with speed and flying stumps, is something every indian fan on this forum must have grown up with So of course it doesn't impress us. A medium pacer needs to take 3+ wickets every single match to not be questioned Now, not only does it not impress us, we actually associate it with mediocrity. We got agressive batsmen way before we got agressive, fast bowlers. We are used to seeeing batsmen dominate and then our mediocre bowling come and ruin things most times for decades. And suddenly we have a spate of good, fast bowlers. Agressive bowlers of our own to crush skulls and flatten stumps. Of course the indian fan will be over the moon. And gasp at every speed gun reading. And not only are they fast, they are effective and winning us games! At one point we never had a bowler who averaged below 30, now our bowlers are close to 25 average or less with ease. Its like every fantasy we had while growing up came true and is better than what our dreams were. And in such an atmosphere of hope and excitement, a medium spacer trundling in will just be a reminder of a past we thought we left behind and is thought to be taking up the space of a deserving young fast bowler. Perhaps rightly so Not to mention that Bhuvi hasnt done justice to his skills. While everyone from bumrah, shami, ishant, yadav have shown vast improvement, Bhuvi seems to have stagnated or gone backwards and also been injury prone (one caveat is that all those who showed improvement played a lot of tests to show case their skills). At the same time other medium pace bowlers like him have done way better in IPL and other limited chances they got and are felt to be more deserving. It is no different from when rahanes test place was/is being questioned I think the modern indian fan demands lots more and is not satisfied with mediocrity. Of course casual fans hero worship stars but fans like those on this sub wont be happy just seeing kohlis t20 stats (at one point averages and runs of sachin, dravid were proudly worshipped by Indian fans) and will demand results and cups. And when they see what they think is a past era trundler, with average stats, they want something much more And IMO with proper focus, we CAN have nuch more, whether its improving current bowlers or more likely going with the vast potential fast bowling talent hiding in this country. We can do way better. One of the most popular threads on this forum is about fast bowlers and bowling. And the passion shown there is unmatched. Some of the most knowledgeable and zealous posters online are on that thread. And hats off to them. I think which in a way answers this question Edited October 23, 2021 by New guy beetle, Norman and Mariyam 3 Link to comment
Chakdephatte
Doesn't take wickets in powerplay, an average of 34 in ODIs. Gets injured before important matches, could have lost us the match vs Pakistan in World Cup. Is one of those rare bowlers to concede 100+ runs in an ODIs, and he gave 93 another match, gets spanked by no name no.8 batsmen, Ashley nurse, hasaranga, etc. Enough reasons? Adamant
It's okay to not like his inclusion in the side but dunno where the hate comes from, probably the most well behaved (not that it matters) and non choking bowler we have. He averages 26 in tests, the fact that he didn't get to play too many tests costed India more than it costed him coz he was probably on par with our best player in SEN conditions. A very good t20i bowler but yes not a real good option for odis. New guy and beetle 2 Link to comment

beetle
He is not phaast. He had an amazing debut, performed very well for sometime but could not keep it at the same level. His usp was his swing....almost magical. Over the years , he lost his almost 'on command ' swinging capability. He increased his speed which led to some excitement amongst the speen gun enthusists. Unfortunately it coincided with his injuries and he again went down in speed which many people did not like. He is not a part of any groups. Sometimes it works in his favor and he atleast did not have to bear the brunt of it from either of his skippers. He also is experienced and delivers more often than not when available and selected .This means he gets selected over some other upcoming prospects because the captains prefer going with his experience. This also makes him unpopular with the people who want to see new talent. He has no lobby, no PR , no Godfathers ....but still gets selected. Kuch tu hai usme. Anyways...no cricket fan can deny that Bhuvi setting up a batsman and finally getting him with his swing is as dramatic and enjoyable as a fast bowler striking the stumps . Wish we could see that more often. Unfortunately...he has not lived up to the promise he showed in the initial years because of injuries. rangeelaraja, New guy, Mariyam and 2 others 1 4 Link to comment
