zen Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 If that happens, might as well use the tournament to give world cup experience to young players, esp. considering team development for next year world cup in Australia where pitches are expected to be more batting friend. sandeep 1
New guy Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 No. But who will bell the cat? No one has the guts to drop them
cowboysfan Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 you can see well before the WC that a lot of players in the team were not in form but I never realized how bad it was,so much for the pathetic IPL. what's the point if it's not not prepare indian players for the big stage? they will not beat the kiwis who themselves dont have a good side. IPL is a high pressure tournament. These guys ideally should have had a camp and practiced longer if they were not in form. IPL is not the place to find form as there are no easy games there. This comment then further highlights the need to have played players like Venk Iyer who were doing well in the IPL just two weeks back. Its just poor cricketing decisions that he was not picked in the team. Adi_91 1
Khota Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Very negative. If that happens and India is out I agree with you.

I share the frustration about sub-optimal selection, bad tactics etc. But I find it interesting how Venky Iyer somehow has become the magic talisman solution to all the problems for the team. In an alternate reality, if he was selected and had played against Pakistan, and failed. A lot of the same folks are likely to have been out there with their knives and pitchforks criticizing his selection. Hindsight armchair selector-captaincy is more the norm here than genuine criticism or analysis. I would suggest a re-think and an attempt to do better. Adi_91, Norman, zen and 1 other 4
Ankit_sharma03 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Nope then u can drop them or one can play (rohit possibly since he ll take over as captain)

Everyone who fails in a big game will be bashed. no need of ifs and buts there But in T20,picking players on past reputation rather than form is always high risk. Its not just hindsight. In Venky's case he offered bowling too. Ofcourse he could have failed too but its about giving yourself the best chance before the game,no? Picking Bhuvi over Thakur was another such decision. But objective criticism would bother to recognize the fact that the biggest contributors to the loss were the openers, and the collective failure of the bowlers to take wickets. Choosing to fixate on your confirmation biases about one player or the other, especially those who played no more than a bit part, is exactly that - a choice. And a non-objective one at that. Of course you are free to share such subjective opinions. As are others to dispute it and share their own. Hope you get my point in the right spirit. Lord 1
Chakdephatte Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Kohli doesn't even rest in bilaterals against WI. To expect our selectors to rest them in the middle of a tournament is foolish. People wait for 2 years to watch these two bat. Resting them mean people have no incentive to watch next few matches. From the team's perspective, yes, they shouldn't play. sandeep 1

In high pressure games having experience always helps, you could see what Surya or Pant achieved with some of their lack of experience! Iyer vs Thakur is not even a contest, Thakur has played some of the most high pressure games ever in away test & performed admirably - Iyer just has IPL on his CV, that is not enough for a ticket in this WT20 Shreyas could've been in for Panda & Chahar for Bhukhe SRT100 1

Pant actually did well.Rohit is experienced enough. Iyer and Thakur not competing for same spot. Thakur for Bhuvi was must. V Iyer is not even in reserves. SRT100 1

Youve made a rather asinine ignorant comment here. I have pointed out several times, that there was multiple reasons to explain India's failure against Pakistan, selection issues was one of them. Think before you post and think critically next time and you may post a better response.

Its like you have no comprehension at all of the general consensus of what posters have remarked as the issues with why India failed. Sure selection was one of them, but there are several that are clear, obvious and concise. There is no subjective nature of the opinions here by the majority, its obvious that India had a myriad of reasons for their poor form v Pakistan.
Prabhdeep Singh Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Let's hope India wins and picks the right team. I think India need to think out of the box. Try something like this: Rohit Kishan Kohli Pant Rahul Jadeja Thakur Ashwin Kumar Chahar/Shami Bumrah Top 7 left right combination, reasonable batting upto 9 and 6 Bowlers.
zen Posted October 31, 2021 Author Posted October 31, 2021 Time for Rohit & Kohli to drop themselves ... Show some pride like the Afghans

Show some pride like the Afghans why would they do that when they can pad their stats against Nam/Scot (not Afg though)? They will score some feckless 50s and the whole mainstream media and majority of populace will go overboard with delight and acclaim how they are the greatest two batsmen in T20s
Majestic Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 But others aren't performing either so how you only drop one of Rohit/Kohli..
